Book Reviews of The Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook: Great-Tasting Recipes That Keep You LeanBook Review: One of my two favorite cookbooks Summary: 5 Stars
I'm certainly no cook. Just going into the kitchen gives me a panic attack. But, I have to eat. I've been on the clean-eating plan for months and it's been very successful. I was, however, running out of meal ideas. So I bought this book. I'm glad I did.
I've made several of the recipes. I've had to cut them down as they're far to many servings for me in most cases. But they're easy to prepare and fun to make. Moreover, the ones I've made are just great tasting. I may have to add a dash of this and that to suit my taste. But, other than that, I love the cookbook.
I also appreciate the fact it gives the calories and lets you know what you're getting in each recipe.
I wish it was in a spiral binder and had a cover that you could easily clean. Seems cookbooks today don't have those little extra things that cookbooks need. But that's the only problem with this book.
Highly recommended.

Book Review: Not Clean Enough Summary: 3 Stars
It is my understanding that "Eating Clean" involves eating whole foods and avoiding processed foods. Therefore, I was attracted to this series of books because I am allergic to genetically engineered corn and soy, which is in 90% of all food in America.
However, some of the recipes in this book list ingredients (such as soy sauce or cottage cheese) that contain either soy or MSG, which I'm also allergic to. So, if I were to use this book, I would have to try to make it "more clean" than it is.
Also, I think something was left out of the Sprouting Instructions on pages 55-56. First it says to soak the nuts, seeds, or grains that you want to sprout and drain the water. Then, to sprout, it says to put the drained items in a jar. It doesn't say to put any water back in, but later it says to "rinse the old water out and put new water in". So I must have been supposed to put water in the jar, but it doesn't say how much. Very confusing.
Book Review: Almost all clean! Summary: 4 Stars
I like this cookbook a lot and I've tried out her 'Turkey Meatloaf' and 'muffins' recipes. They came out pretty good and of course, clean. The ingredients are pretty simple and easy to find. I would have given this cookbook 5 stars if it wasn't for some of the recipes that I don't think they are truly 'clean'.
As one of Tosca's clean-eating mantras is to avoid consuming white flour and products that are made from white flour, I was surprised to see a few recipes that call for 'rice noodles', for example, PAD THAI. Rice noodles are made from white rice flour. When you're eating rice noodles in any form, flat or vermicelli, basically you're eating white rice or white flour period! Also, there are recipes that call for 'all purpose flour'.... doesn't 'all purpose flour belong to 'white flour' category?? This is very confusing for me. Nevertheless, I like most of the recipes. I just won't try the ones that I don't trust.
Book Review: Love this cookbook and the eating clean lifestyle Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one of these for me and one for a friend mid-December. I've enjoyed this book very much and have been eating clean since early December. These recipes are easy to follow and taste great. Some of the negative reviews have said that some ingredients are hard to find, but in many cases you can substitute other ingredients in the recipes...no bison? Use another protein. No avocado oil? Use olive oil. Use your head with the substitutions and you should be fine. If you have something you can't find or don't want a ton of try to get to a larger grocery store and haunt their bulk food or organic sections. My friend is not a very experienced cook, and she's asked a few questions about preparation and ingredients, but she's cooking from this book without difficulty. Ordering tonight for my niece and my daughter-in-law. And the lifestyle change has been amazing for me, feel great, loads of energy and I've lost 25 pounds!
Book Review: What I was looking for,and with GF options! Summary: 4 Stars
I had been looking for a good whole-foods cookbook for a while when I picked this one up. The recipes are relatively simple and most of the ingredients are either easy to find or easy to substitute with other things. I like that she includes healthy versions for things most people already eat, like burgers, pancakes, and guacamole (stuff my husband would actually eat.) The best part of the cookbook for me is that many of the recipes are either gluten-free or easy to make GF. I have two relatives with Celiac disease, so finding healthy, unprocessed recipes that they can eat can be difficult. My GF vegetarian sister was very impressed with this book, and she's a tough one to please!
I disagree with anyone who feels most of the ingredients are too exotic. There are always substitutes, or you can order a lot of things online. If you're shopping on Amazon, I'm assuming you're willing to buy things online!
