Book Reviews of The Feeling Good HandbookBook Review: If you have EVER been Anxious or Depressed! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is fantastic! I am a 31 year with a Master in Counseling Psychology who, believe it or not, has suffered from depression and aniexty my whole life on and off. If you honestly want to feel better, and are willing to do a limited amount of mental work then this book is for you. I was taking Zoloft and did not want to take it for the rest of my life. I thought, "There is no way this will work, I have a chemical imbalance." But you miss 100% of the shots you do not try.....I am medication free and feel fantasic. It is all mind over matter...
Book Review: Feeling Good is Feeling Great Summary: 5 Stars
I am an extremly skeptical person when it comes to most self-help programs, however, as I have been reading the Feeling Good Handbook, I am truly amazed at the progress I've made in battling my own depression. The cognitive reasoning approach and most basic presentation of what constitutes depression, is written in a clear, concise manner that doesn't overwhelm you with facts and data. I can truly say that this book as well as the New Mood Therapy book by Dr. Burns are extremely helpful in providing you with the tools to make your life better.
Book Review: Wish Dr. Burns would update this book Summary: 5 Stars
I have read this book many times and it helped every time. Very practical, how-to advice, with tools such as charts. It is specially good if you're taking cognitive therapy with a psychiatrist, an MD. Oh, this book won't lessen the pain of depression, but it gives you practical knowledge and action plans. An appropriate metaphor is, you have a broken leg(depression); this book helps you know how to set it, know how to help it heal, know how long it would take to heal, and how to lead as normal a life as possible while it heals.
Book Review: Cognitive therapy classic Summary: 5 Stars
I read this book when I was going through a divorce several years ago. The handbook helped me to review the thinking that was contributing to my depression. Although my depression was situational, I was overwhelmed and was filtering information negatively. Recently, my son went through a depression and I gave him this book and another excellent book, Optimal Thinking--How to Be Your Best Self that provides specific questions to resolve disturbing emotions. I recommend each of these books.
Book Review: Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
I would recommend this book to everyone. My psychologist highly recommends it. Infact she was amused by the fact, that as I was talking to her, I was correcting myself. Be warned, however, that there is another book written by this author that have similar information. Get this big book and not the small one it doesn't have all the info. in it and only about 2 worksheets. Without the worksheets to do, it is just food for thought. I got both, but should have just got this one, only.
