Book Reviews of The Feeling Good Handbook

Book Review: Useless
Summary: 1 Stars

If you have major depressive disorder (AKA clinical depression), stay away from this book. I've tried to read it several times, but the exhausting quizzes and thought analyses wear me out. Depression makes it almost impossible to concentrate; why wouldn't Burns know that? How can he expect a depressed person to analyze her thought patterns and try to capture so-called twisted thoughts on paper?

I'm going back to my tried-and-true depression therapy: walking.

Book Review: Life Saving Tools
Summary: 5 Stars

This book saved my life 20 years ago and I have refered to it so many times since. I thank God that I finally found some tools to battle my manic - depression. Over the years, I've given away many copies to friends. Some of them found it very helpful, others not so much. If you are feeling down, if the doctors are pushing medications on you, I URGE you to give this self- therapy a try. Maybe you will be one the lucky ones who finds a way to hold off depression without drugs.

Book Review: Excellent book
Summary: 5 Stars

If you read the first two or three chapters and "get it", you won't need to read the rest of the book.

There are 3 pages in the book that are priceless that list the various ways humans distort their thinking.

Memorize those 3 pages, and apply them to your own thinking - and the rest of the book is optional.

That said, do get the book...in order to maintain sanity in one's life, you NEED those 3 pages!!!!!!!

Book Review: Absolutely phenomenal
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is incredible! It helped me learn how to cope during a very difficult time in my life. The author truly helps you to see things differently. I learned that perception is what rules our feelings and that we have the power to turn things around, depending on how we look at a situation. Highly, highly, highly recommend this book to anyone who is dealing with loss, stress, anxiety, anger, depression, etc, etc. This book can change your life!!!

Book Review: It Works If You Work It
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a workbook that deals with depression and anxiety. It strives to change the way you think, and if you are in fact depressed or anxious, that's probably a good idea. However, you MUST do the exercises in order to experience any change. I'm on chapter 5 now, and have found it insightful and useful, but it is not a quick fix. However, I do think it is quite helpful with or without a therapist and a whole lot better than simply popping a pill.
