Book Reviews of The Final Warning (Maximum Ride, Book 4)

Book Review: WTF????
Summary: 1 Stars

I must say I read the first three books and absolutely loved them. When I picked up this one I thought it was a bit small in size so I was hoping it would cut to the point. Man was I wrong. This whole book was a total cop-out, what a pathetic ending to a great series. This book has almost nothing to do with the story line of the rest of the series. Totally different bad guy(s), no link into the original plot line, and just a really really pathetic way to try to send a message, especially when it has nothing to do with the first three books. James Patterson totally ruined this series, I was actually thinking of picking up some of his other books before I read this, now I'll never read anything of his again. I just hope he was under some serious pressure from his publicists about putting out another book, because this was really really really bad. So disappointing, wish I could have given it less than 1 star.

Book Review: Had to be a Ghost Writer
Summary: 2 Stars

I'm sorry but if it's not a ghost writer, then someone must have clubbed Paterson over the head in the past year for his writing style to become so lame. I loved the first 3 books and read all of them in a 5 hour period, but this one took me about 2 weeks to finish. It was so slow moving I just didnt have the compulsion to want to finish it. and when I did, it was like, is that it?
Along with the blatantly obviouse global warming propaganda, the character development was non existant as were the style of his generally oginal antagonists. This one was more of a background cackling bad guy who probably was lifted straight from a James Bond book.
I was also shocked by Maxes quick acceptance of Jeb back into her life, and the coochy Disney ending almost made me sick.
Patterson will need a big ladder to get himself out of the massive hole he dug with this green peace crap.

Book Review: Skip it!
Summary: 1 Stars

Absolutely trite. I'd only read the third in the series and was so taken and impressed with it that I snatch up the fourth when I saw it in the store without a moment's consideration. Blegh. What a disappointment. Preachy. Condescending. And not just once or twice, but he repeatedly beats you over the head with it. Max's speech at the end was such a let down, too. It did not add anything new to global warming argument, just rehashed the old argument in Max's typical, albeit amusing, sarcastic style. Sorry, I don't buy that some teenager (wings or no wings) is going to speak to Congress and recite some facts and suddenly the country or world or whatever is going to change?
My advice: skip this book, watch An Inconvenient Truth. The latter is better scripted, more informative, and definitely more entertaining.

Book Review: Such a disappointment
Summary: 1 Stars

For years, I have had my students read James Patterson's When the Wind Blows, The Lake House, and all of the Maximum Ride novels. We were all very excited when Maximum Ride: The Final Warning hit the book store. However, this book was such a disappointment. It just didn't seem to contain the same adventure or thrilling sequence of events that the first three novels had. My students felt that it was boring, that Patterson had joined the band wagon to add his views on the global warning issue, and used Max and the kids to deliver that message. Too bad! I only hope the next one will be more in the James Patterson style. Did this one put him to sleep, too? My students were definitely in agreement that this book wasn't worth reading. They also concur that not reading this one will not get in the way of understanding #5.

Book Review: A Little Confusing -- and Short (SPOILER ALERT)
Summary: 3 Stars

I thought that overall it was kind of pointless, as the plot didn't exactly advance that far compared to the other three books. Also, it was way shorter than usual -- maybe Patterson is running out of steam? That's what it felt like to me. Either that, or he was focusing mostly on the message of global warming and using that as a way to stir movement amongst the younger generations. Otherwise, it was certainly interesting the interaction (or lack thereof) between Max and Fang, and also the awesomeness of Dr. Martinez (which makes me think that maybe something's up with her). The Lerning School was also kind of interesting -- Xavier's School for the Gifted inspired, anyone? I'm really looking forward to the next book and seeing if that improves upon the fourth book and is more consistent with the first three books.
