Book Reviews of The Food Processor Bible

Book Review: The Food Processor Bible
Summary: 2 Stars

This is an OK book. I liked the simple recipe for potato pancakes; it worked perfectly and it is a type of food (a wet batter that blends potatos and onions) that can only be made effectively in a food processor. However, like the other food processor books I own, it focuses too much on sweets, from muffins to cakes--stuff that (1) you should never feed to children, unless you want to contribute to an addiction to sugar and to the national child obesity problem, and (2) you should never feed to adults over 40, given their propensity for adult health problems like high blood pressure and high blood sugar levels, not to mention fat arms, wide bottoms, and huge bellies. Counting only the recipe chapters in this book, about 40 percent of the text is devoted to sugary junk food. Just look at the people around you. A parade of fatties, tubbos, and heifers. Then ask youself: Do I really want to make Ms. Gilletz's "Dreamy Creamy Chocolate Cheesecake" tonight?

Book Review: Nice recipes but cheap quality
Summary: 3 Stars

THis cookbook is a very good "how to" type cookbook. I ran into a couple of negatives however. First is the cheap paper this cookbook is made with. Don't get it wet by any means. A drop of water on the page and it will show up after it dries with a warped page. Drop any quantity of fluid and it will need to be replaced. Very cheaply made and no quality of construction at all. I have done a few recipes and I found one with instructions to coarsely chop some nuts for about 8 seconds. When I did that I wound up with nut powder. So watch your machine don't go by the timer. I like the recipes and ease of using them with the machine. There are many traditional jewish recipes which I like and if you wish a good cookbook in that vein then this is the one for you. If you are a Jewish Princess who wants to get in and out of the kitchen and impress for the holidays with your cooking then this is a stellar choice. Just keep it dry!!

Book Review: One of the best nuts and bolts cookbooks I know of
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm not a big cookbook fan, but I do have a bit of a shelfload of them in a kitchen cabinet and I use most of them. This is the one I use most. When I first got a food processor sometime during the Pleistocene Era I latched onto Ms Gilletz' book, a predecessor edition that was spiral-bound and which fell apart for overuse and the passage of the ages. For awhile during the dissolution I scanned recipes of hers that I used a lot into my computer, but after some time the book just disintegrated and eventually vanished. I was delighted to find this successor volume -- properly bound and containing many of the same recipes the original had. I highly recommend the barbecue sauce and the challah formula -- though she forgets the quasi-pagan ritual of tossing an olive-sized chunk of dough into the oven as it pre-heats to assuage the Lords of Carbohydrates. I recommend the book highly, and the food processor is optional.

Book Review: Food Processor Bible
Summary: 5 Stars

Norene's latest book is a wonderful resource for using your food processor and has great recipes, useful tips and information, especially how to prep, whether your can freeze it or not, and her section on Passover. Read this book and you will be friends with your food processor.

The appetizers, desserts and Passover sections are my favorites. Please try the Hot Cheese Cake (page 129) as a main dish for brunch. It'll be a hit. Also the Chocolate Matzo Bark (page 446).

I've been referring to Norene's cookbooks for years. As a university student, my culinary reptertoire came mostly from her Pleasures of Your Food Processor and Second Helpings Please. This new and updated food processor book has provided me with updated information and new and useful recipes.

You don't need to be a kosher household to love this book! It's vital to any cook.
