Book Review The Front by Patricia Cornwell

The Front arrived May 13 and with a May 20 deadline I got right to work reading this book. Thank you for the privilege of reading a new book by Patricia Cornwell; I am a huge fan of hers and have read all her crime novels. That said I was disappointed in this book The Front. I felt like I was reading a Readers Digest Condensed Book. The storyline is good but the characters need fleshing out, the plot needs to be developed more. The book felt like a lite version of itself. I like the characters especially Win Garano but there was not enough substance either to the characters or the plot, many questions as to who the characters are, where they came from, why they relate to each other the way they do. The potential is there for a great book if Ms. Cornwell would provide more details to the characters, and the plot.

Book Review: Huge Cornwell fan. Not sure about this book though.
Summary: 3 Stars

I was so excited to be chosen to read and review this book. I read "At Risk" and thought that it was exciting. This book was just OK. I wasn't quite sure what it was about. It felt very choppy to me and it was hard to follow. The ending kind of left me hanging. I don't like the feeling that the detective was a lacky. I'm a huge Cornwell fan and feel like I'm betraying her, but feel she would like to know whether to keep writing this series. Monique seems to be very manipulative and caniving. Seems she shouldn't get involved with "trash", but should leave it to the detective and police. I didn't like her attitude towards, well, everyone. I would give the next in the series a chance, though. I respect Patricia Cornwell and all her Novels. She is an amazing writer and I will always be faithful to her and her writings. I'm just not sure about this book.

Book Review: Difficult to even attempt
Summary: 1 Stars

Thankfully this was given to me, I am glad I did not bother with spending money on this. I agree that one star is maybe too much. I fell in love with Ms. Cornwell years ago and have been an avid reader since. Scarpetta was a character I enjoyed until the last few books which have been less than her best. I tried Southern Cross, did not finish it, forced my way through At Risk, but find myself once again not being able to finish The Front. Maybe the strain of bringing out too many books in too many areas too quickly has lowered her standards but they just have not been the enjoyable all night read they used to be. The Front has been relegated to the bathroom for the very rare times I get to soak and don't care what I read as long as I wouldn't be saddened if it gets wet. Ten years ago Cornwell would never be an I don't care book, now she is.

Book Review: good choice for a summer read
Summary: 3 Stars

The Front is a quick read with plenty of plot twists and action. The terrorism tie seems a little far-fetched but is probably a fair portrayal of the present paranoia within the system. Since we're only two stories into this series, the characters aren't as well developed as those in the Scarpetta books. I look forward to seeing a relationship develop more fully between Win and Stump and learning more about the background of his Nana. Ms. Lamont seems to have become even more underhanded and controlling than before and came close to ending her career... maybe next time. Although it's not necessary, it might be helpful to read the first novel, At Risk, to provide background and continuity. I heartily recommend The Front for all avid fans of Ms. Cornwell and for anyone looking to spend a summer afternoon with an exciting story.

Book Review: from a true crime profesional for true crime professionals
Summary: 5 Stars

I have read Ms. Cornwell's writings for years. Book of the dead was awesome!!! I then started reading the At Risk series. Didn't think I was going to like it without Kay and the gang. I was proven wrong in just a few chapters. I love this new set of characters as well as the real Mass facts and situations. The Front reveals how a true crime fighter would face issues involving opening old "real old" cases, dealing with modern day crimes and working with everyone to find the true answer(s). I really don't spend the time to write reviews, but felt that I had to on this one. The Front is real entertainment and shows the results of relentless research. Just long enough to make you not want to stop until it's finished. I guarantee you will love this new one from Patricia.......Keep it up, can't wait for the movie !!!!!
