Book Review: A Little Goes a Long Way

While the Gospel of Mary Magdalene is incomplete, it gives a sample of some beliefs and perspectives that were rejected by the early Church. You cannot read it alone, however. Accompany it with the Gospel of Thomas, the Odes of Solomon, and other gnostic works and you get a complete understanding of the Gnostic perspective, i.e., Christ is within.
The commentary is excellent and helps to clarify the historicity of the gnostic philosophy.

I have kept this book close by since I began reading it. Although the Magdalene's written text is brief, it is powerful and fascinating. She offers a window into the earliest relationship between a woman of deep knowing and how she interfaced with Christ. The commentaries elucidate her knowledge of the spiritual mysteries in a meaningful way, and create a pathway for modern women to tread in tracing the threads of our own unique spirituality.Book Review: bible thumpers beware

I thought this book would be a translation of the Gospel of Mary (which it was) and a discussion of how her life and relationship with Jesus affected how and what she wrote. It was more a ton of heavy-duty philosophy. Parts were interesting, but it was very dry - hard to stick with.
