Book Review: My Big Regret--but never too late.
Summary: 5 Stars
Well, I read this book 33 years ago. I was a young gunner of a salesman, when I read this book. It touched me---but I didn't absorb it because I was too busy out hustling. My high horsepower drive paid off in material things, and I was promoted to Vice President,---but I missed the boat. I should have paid more attention to this book.
I can recall when that song came out "Cat in the Cradle" about a father who was so busy that he never had time for his son. Then when the son got out of college, he never had time for his dad. When I first heard that song on the car radio, I had to pull the car off the Eisenhower Expressway. I then drove over to my sons grade school and took him down to the travel agents office to buy us two tickets to Hawaii. Next, I told the President of our company that I wouldn't be coming in on Saturdays anymore. I bought a 27 foot cabin cruiser. My son and I had many a fun week end on that boat.. Now he's grown and always enjoys spending time with me---Thank God. That song and this book are tremendous gifts to us all.
But---this book would have greatly helped me get on the right track as far as the corect frame of mind goes. I just didn't fully absorb it's great message.
When I first read this book it was amazing to me because I was raised in that very neighborhood. I even drove down to Devon and stared at the very apartment window for a long time. What a great author. Now I'm in the Winter of my life (71 years old ) I didn't want to drive over to the library---so I searched thru my bookshelf, and started reading this wonderful book,--- again. This trip---it is really touching my heart. I do regret, not fully absorbing it many years ago--but like the old saw "Better Late Than Never".
