The book is fiction. The laws are real and as timeless as the truth they reflect.
I'd say more about the story, but it might discourage you from getting this book for your own library. In this case, just do it.
Before she died, my wife kept a closet full of this and other Og Mandino books. She gave them to everyone who struggled with an accurate sense of self-worth or needed a punch in the arm to let them know how special they were to her.
She was a treasure. Og Mandino is a treasure!
Highly recommended.

I'v read it before and getting ready to listen to the audio version (again). I was amazed at how Og captured my heart and kept me glued to the story.
You've just got to read this book! I went through the program in the book and it just totally changed my life. Og had a special gift. As his mother told him. She said "Not only will he be a writer but a Great writer" Indeed how right she was!
I have told many people about Og. He's my hero because he has shown me the love of God in a special way. Get the book. You won't be sorry. It can change your life as it has mine and sooooooo many others.

This book has revolutionized how i think about life and other people. It is such an awesome read because of the way OG Mandino writes the book and it addresses every single problem that our society faces to date and relates it back to one problem : LACK OF SELF-ESTEEM. Everything is so true in this book stating how most people only look for self-help when they are on the scrap heap of life and if they aren't they don't realize that they have a serious lack of self-esteem. This book will help so many other people become ragpickers as i have made my life dedicated to becoming a ragpicker.Book Review: Thought Provoking

Og Mandino did a very good job on this book. If you like books that bring you closer to God or that at least makes you think, this is a great book for you. The way he uses the ragpicker was great. He was just some old man that didn't have much, who was just out to help out others, and to try to bring them closer to God, and to help them find themeselves. This is a great book and I would recomend it to anyone interested. This is one of few book that I actually did not mind reading.
