Book Reviews of The GruffaloBook Review: not original text! Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this to replace our current tattered read-so-much version and the copy I received has been altered from the original text! I have no idea why except that some clever fellow decided that Americans wouldn't recognize some of the layout of the language - as the book is written with British wording - ridiculous! The part that says "oh my" fox said should read "I'm off!" Fox said .. this has totally changing the rhyme in some places. Not the book we've grown to love.. sending it back for the same the hard cover one I currently have and hopefully it will not be with the altered text!
Book Review: Ingenious Story Summary: 5 Stars
This is the most clever children's story I've ever read, and I've read hundreds of books to my 17-month old! What an imaginative, original premise with a great message, too: You can outwit any scary or imposing creature -- no matter how small you are!
I completely adore everything written by Julia Donaldson. She is my favorite children's author. She is an incredibly talented "poet" of children's literature. Another MUST BUY is The Snail and The Whale. It's a wonderfully told tale with a truly heartfelt message (I actually cried for the whale!). She's just awesome.
Book Review: A Must Have for Your Child's Library Summary: 5 Stars
There aren't too many books that I would say SHOULD be in your child's library. This is one of them. The story is ingeniously told and quite impactful. My son couldn't get enough of the book with the mouse! We've read it at least 10 times in the 2 days since receiving it. We already had The Snail and the Whale in our library. I am happy that we read The Gruffalo second because I think I would have been disappointed the other way around. As it is, we love both books and now will be adding Room on the Broom as well to round out our Julia Donaldson collection.
Book Review: Our favorite Summary: 5 Stars
This is our favorite book by far-and that is saying something! We love to read as a family and when my daughter was about 2 1/2 she got this book and we have read it hundreds of times in the last year! My daughter loves the rhyming and the repeating of events. She loves the "silly mouse", and even better she loves pretending to be scared of the Gruffalo! It's the perfect length for a kids book and is so much fun to read because you can get very cunning, frightened, and then just plain silly when you read it! I wish all books were this much fun!
Book Review: the grufallo Summary: 4 Stars
This is a fabulous story for children, I am an elementary music teacher and singer-songwriter myself and have found that children in kindergarten through third grade love to hear this tale and the other stories in this series and ask to hear them over and over. Donaldson's wonderful characters and their different personalities come across through the accompanying CDs. They are excellent, I even belong to the fan club. The Gruffalo
