Book Review: Halo graphic novel Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best comic I have ever read. I , being a Halo fan myself, have also read the novels that compliment the story of Master chief and the rest of the Halo universe. This is a wonderful edition to the Halo universe. It answers questions about characters , the art is spectacular, the stories and how they are presented meld so perfectly together with the style of the games, novels, and the rest of the halo universe that I felt I was reading cut scenes form the games and continuations of the books( which both were amazing as well). Any comic book lover, Halo fan or Sci fi fan should check this comic out , and if that sparks your enthusiasm and you want to find out how this all ties into the Great Story that is Halo you should check out the other novels and game products. 5/5, perfect!, wonderful!, so many words can describe how pleased I am with this product.
Book Review: For Fans Only. Summary: 3 Stars
I got this book because I am a fan of the Halo series. Yes, i have played, beaten, and multiplayed all three and enjoyed them all, even read most of the books. So getting the graphic novel just seemed to make since (and why not, Microsoft already has a ton of my money). But one thing that needs to be said is the book is not meant for all. No, the artistry, the story, heck, even the characterization will fall on deaf ears to anyone that has not beaten at least two of the games. I even entered the book with an open mid, and had to switch to a closed mind just to follow pace with what some of the stories were getting at. The artwork is the best reason for buying the book, and I felt the overall story was but a mere brief mention.
STill worthy of purchase, if you like Halo.
Book Review: Extreme Disappointment Summary: 1 Stars
Amazingly sucky. Artwork is mostly blurred, boring, or uninteresting. Action sequences are too long, confusing, and muddied. Stories are non-existent. Maybe you'd get more out of it if you're more familiar with the Halo universe, but I don't think so. Case in point: The Johnson story is a total flop. Despite the huge buildup, nothing happens except a running shootout with the Flood. Most of the art in the Gallery at the end is better than the stories, and one or two even has a better story than the actual stories. Pretty clear Bungie & Microsoft just grabbed whoever was available and pushed out four stories to make this happen in time for some deadline or budget, despite all the protestations that that's exactly what didn't happen. Very disappointing, this could have been awesome.
Book Review: Too Short!!! Summary: 3 Stars
Fans of Halo are pretty starved for Halo right now. It's been almost two years since Halo 2 was released and it's at least a year until Halo 3 comes out.
This graphic take place between the events in Halo 1 and 2. A short description of the stories is listed in the product description, so I won't repeat myself. I'll just tell you what the product description does not: this graphic novel is only 115 pages long. The four stories only take up 100 pages. The remaining 15 is an "art gallery" which looks good, but adds nothing to the overall story.
If you really like comic books and you really like Halo, then you will probably like this graphic novel. But if you're looking for insight into the secrets of Halo; you will not find it here.
