Book Reviews of The Hard Way (Jack Reacher, No. 10Book Review: Typical Jack Reacher Formula Summary: 3 Stars
I like the Reacher books, even though they are preposterous. Reacher, of course, is a caricature of the loner super-hero and this book is no exception. Sometimes I think the name "Reacher" is literal -- in other words, the author may be reaching a bit too far in his plot turns. BUT...on the whole, this was a good Reacher novel, if you can just suspend belief and reality for a few hundred pages. It's a good yarn, with a lot of suspense and some pretty well-drawn characters. I think the writing here is a shade better than in Child's other Reacher books and the plot is creative. If you're a Reacher fan, you'll like this one. I am and I did.
Book Review: Five stars for Lee Child's latest Summary: 5 Stars
Inexorable like any good thriller should be, where the conclusion is surprising, yet completely inevitable, THE HARD WAY, carefully eases its iron-jawed lead character, Jack Reacher into a spiral of trouble that only a man of his kind can get into. Even minding his own business, he ends up witnessing part of a kidnapping plot and is soon sucked into a gripping plot involving a band of mercenaries, murder (the bad kind) and some judicious arm-breaking with fireplace implements. Man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Reminded me of Todd Buchholz's new thriller THE CASTRO GENE. Check 'em both out.
Book Review: Good Thriller Summary: 4 Stars
In this novel, Jack Reacher is on the case of a kidnapped mother and daughter. The action swings from New York to rural England. The first time, to the best of my knowledge, that a Jack reacher novel has not been set entirely in the USA.
I felt the storyline was good, throughout, and I was hooked from the start. There was always something at the end of each chapter, that would make me want to keep on reading. The characters in it were interesting, too. Having said that, there are better Jack reacher novels out there, but, this one is still very good and certainly worth a read.
Book Review: Reacher, P.I. Summary: 5 Stars
This is the 10th installment in the Jack Reacher chronicles. Reacher is an ex-MP who wanders the country, much like David Carradine's character in the TV show "Kung Fu", carrying few belongings and saving the day. In this book Reacher becomes involved in the kidnapping of an ex-Army officer's wife and daughter and then goes gumshoe detective encountering twists, turns and bad guys along the way - An oft-repeated plot but still an engaging book and one of the better entries in this series.
Book Review: My favorite Reacher novel so far Summary: 4 Stars
When I ran out of John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee stories, a helpful person suggested I try Lee Child's "Jack Reacher" series.
I've read about 8 of them, and this one has been my favorite yet.
Lee Child is no John MacDonald, but he can compose a gripping story. "The Hard Way" has a great villain, plausible premise, engaging characters and good pacing. If you enjoyed "Trip Wire" or "Persuader", I think this one is even better.
