Book Review: Rare look into the people-pet bond, with excellent story telling

When I received my copy of The Healing Art of Pet Parenthood, I was skeptical. I knew Nadine from phone conversations, so I knew the story was a powerful one. But, I wasn't sure Nadine was the writer to pull it off.
Well, it only took a few pages for me to be totally engrossed in this emotional story. I was hooked by page 7, and could not put this book down. Every page is bursting with emotion - and the kind of story telling that puts you in a trance. Nadine is not only an outstanding pet parent (she puts the rest of us to shame!), she's a master storyteller.
When writing a memoir, as this book is, it's often hard to separate yourself from the events you're writing about. Nadine does this so well, one begins to believe one is reading a novel. A wonderful, engaging, novel about life - and the preciousness of our furry friends, who are often like children to us. It's about making the right things happen - against all odds. It's about what it means to be a pet parent, to be alive in the world, with your four-legged friend by your side, all the way.
Though we are prepared for the end, it's still a shock - and brings forth the tearful memories we all have - of the terrible losses felt when our best friends' passed - those so precious pets that never really leave us, but linger in silent spaces.
I recommend ALL pet lovers read this book. I recommend those who are thinking of pet ownership, read this book.
