Book Reviews of The Healthy Slow CookerBook Review: Love This Cookbook!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this book to go with my first-ever slow cooker. I love it! I have made 8 recipes so far and have only hit one that wasn't a total success. The recipes are easy to follow (well, there's grinding spices in a mortar and pestle, but you can just use the commercially-ground versions instead). Otherwise, she uses canned tomatoes and recommends frozen veggies when fresh are hard to get or take too long. Best of all, the food tastes great. My husband and I have been trying to get more vegetables and whole grains into our diets and this makes it so easy. Even "disgustingly healthy" (his phrase) ingredients come out yummy. I especially recommend the Mediterranean Beef Ragout and the Veggie Curry.
Book Review: Wonderful! Summary: 5 Stars
I normally cook and cook a lot every single day!
This slow cooker is my first one.
On the contrary of what the recipes advise, I throw everything in the pot and forget it. Nothing prepared ahead as suggested or whatever.
The result? Delicious.
Take my word, don't bother, make your life easy. Collect everything you have and that's it. If the peppers are missing, too bad if they are not essential of course. You do not have fennel but have fennel seeds, that will be it.
It is creative, simple and easy if you want it to be that way :)
And a tip, you've put too much water? Simple: take the cover off...
Enjoy,
Claude
Book Review: Amazing food Summary: 5 Stars
This cookbook is amazing! I have made about 13 different recipes so far and each one has been amazing! I must warn that it isn't a dump it into the crockpot kind of cookbook, but I think that is a process that makes it taste so yummy. The recipes are easy to follow, the ingredients are readily available. I have made some modifications to a few of the recipes and they still turn out great. For some of them I even skipped the stove step and just put it all in the crockpot...stilll tasted great! I hope that you guys enjoy this book as much as my family and I have...oh by the way....I have a 3 year old and 18 month old who have also enjoyed the food!!
Book Review: I love this cookbook! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a fairly health-food conscious person, and when my sister purchased this cookbook, I glanced through the recipes, and was intrigued by the wide variety of recipes, each with nutritional information and educational tidbits about healthy eating. I bought the cookbook for myself, have tried several of the recipes, and have thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. The dishes were very flavorful, fairly easy to make, and the ingredients were easy to find and low cost. There are recipes ranging from breakfast to dessert, with great pictures for most of the dishes. I'm thrilled that I bought this cookbook, and am sure I'll be using it often!
Book Review: Healthy Cooking Made Easy Summary: 5 Stars
I studiously avoided learning to cook for 50+ years but a friend who's very health conscious recommended trying a slow cooker. This cookbook gave me the additional boost I needed. Finlayson is very knowledgeable about nutrition, and somehow manages to make it interesting to read about. Plus, she gives tips on what to prepare the night before, so you can set up the crock pot in the morning, turn it on, and have a great meal by the time you get home. I love the Thai Pumpkin Soup, which has become a favorite in our household. If you're trying WeightWatchers point system, this has an abundance of good recipes.
