Book Reviews of The Healthy Slow CookerBook Review: Too "gourmet" for me Summary: 1 Stars
This is not a book for someone like me who wants to put together a meal quickly before leaving for work in the morning. Although most slow cooker recipes nowadays do require some advance preparation, such as browning meat or chicken, I draw the line at toasting seeds in a frying pan and then grinding them in a mortar and pestle. I can see where it would be a good book for someone with the time and inclination to do gourmet cooking, though, and it does provide a lot of nutritional information and tips.
Book Review: Not the best for me... Summary: 3 Stars
The unfortunate thing about this cookbook is that one of the author's goals is to reduce animal protein. There are very few recipes with any sort of meat in them other then fish. When the recipes do call for chicken its always drumsticks - never a low calorie protein.
The cookbook is great if you are looking for a wide variety of non-meat dishes, but this just isn't what I was looking for. I ended up returning this cookbook.
Book Review: Great Cookbook Summary: 5 Stars
A healthier life style calls for healthy eating...and starting and maintaining a healthy life style isn't always easy...neither is healthy eating. Diets have changed and so has slow cooking. Be ready to change temps, add ingredients along the way...not to just throw things in and walk off. But it's still much better than thinking up what to cook in the evenings and standing at the stove! Recommended.
Book Review: Coolest Cookbook Ever Summary: 4 Stars
I've gone through enough cookbooks to confidently say that this book is the best presentation, and tidbits of information about health benefits, nice pictures of select recipies, and yummy, original, simple recipies for your slow cooker. I came back to this site to see if there would be other cookbooks by this publisher. I don't give it five stars, only cause I have to do all the cooking and am bitter.
Book Review: Wish I wouldn't have purchased Summary: 2 Stars
Even after reading the other reviews I figured I'd give this cookbook a try because I really wanted something with healthy recipes I could make in my slow cooker. There are very few recipes I can even make. Most of the ingredients are impossible for me to locate. I'm all for gourmet food and being difficult to prepare isn't a problem for me either. I just need to be able to locate the ingredients.
