Book Review: LOVE this book, but different sizes for ALL patterns would be nice
Summary: 4 Stars
This is one of the few knitting books I actually own. I got this so I could learn to knit socks and have some cool patterns to choose from. I love the funky patterns and I plan to knit most of the designs now that I've proven to myself I can knit a sock. They are all intermediate/experienced patterns and most of them are based of charts so if you haven't used charts before (like me) it was a learning experience. I also had to improve my cabling skills and learn a few more abbreviations as I went. There is a lot of variety in the patterns, some color work, some beading, some solid colors with cable patterns, etc.
The other thing that is nice about this book is that I've knit up a few things now and haven't found massive errors like I have in other books. Some have an errata sheet for almost every pattern it seems! The instructions have been really clear and there are directions for different cast-ons and techniques at the beginning. I think there was one error in the toe of one pattern, but it was a really simple correction and I just made the toe like I would make any other toes up sock and it was fine.
The downside: I'm not a good enough knitter to alter patterns yet. There are some socks in here with feet that are over 9" around and my feet just aren't that big. One of the pairs of socks has a huge colorwork pattern on it too, so I REALLY have no idea how to alter it. It would have been nice if ALL the patterns had modifications for different food diameters instead of just some.
