Book Reviews of The Last Oracle: A Sigma Force NovelBook Review: Good airplane reading if you don't mind the implausible. Summary: 3 Stars
"Secret" government organization of former commandos gets involved in a worldwide plot involving gypsies, autistic children, Chernobyl, the ancient Oracle of Delphi, etc.
The story included historical details and information about government research projects, both true and well-researched, but for my tastes the story went on a bit too long. Also, the evil plot at the very root of the story (I won't spoil it) was quite implausible.
So overall, it held my interest for almost the duration of the book, but I won't remember much about it a month from now.
But, here are a few of my faves in case you're looking for good books to read:
Fantasy: The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud (2nd book is the best)
Completely Unhinged Fiction: Bad Monkeys by Matt Ruff
Simple, but inspiring fable: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (a bit male-centric though)
Book Review: WOW...Couldn't put it down Summary: 5 Stars
I have read all of James Rollins' books and this one seems to me to be the most exciting. Once you get through the introduction of the story, there is no way you would want to put it down. It was fast paced and kept you wanting to read more to see the outcome of the dangers and obstacles. As usual, there was a lot of research gathered to create this book. A lot of facts that you heard of but didn't think to be true, but apparently they are. As the story is regarding children with autism, it makes you look at autism differently. The fact that they seeem different, but they may actually have a special gift.
It was also good to see the tie in from the book prior to this one called Judas Strain, where Monk went missing but in this book he reappears. Can't wait to read the next one... Doomsday Key. As we read, Seichan will be returning, so hopefully it would be the next book.
Without a doubt this is a MUST READ!!!!

The Last Oracle
By James Rollins
This book was received from LibraryThing in their Early Reviewers program.
My first introduction to James Rollins Sigma Force series was a fast paced, unbelievable story line that keeps you reading all night. With a bit of history, romance, science fiction and secret government agencies of several countries, you are draw into a tale of super heroes, evil villains and ethical questions.
Are we really the good people...sometimes I wonder about the higher powers that float above us ordinary people?
Rollins even solves the mystery of the fate of his friend Monk from The Judas Strain.
I will definitely pick up the first four books in this series to read.
If you want to read a story that holds your attention, makes you yell as well as cry, then by all means read this book.
Book Review: One of Rollins' best Summary: 4 Stars
I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would (I did not like the last one). It was well researched, and I suggest the reader start at the end of the book on page 459, Author's Note. This is fascinating and truly amazing, all the things in the book which are actually based on Fact. I have read every one of Rollins' books out in paperback, and this is one of my favorites. He writes well, the story moves, and the characters, while not necessarily believable, certainly are likeable. Read this on the plane or beach or when the stress of work is getting to you. The only thing I would suggest to the author, is that Pierce and Crowe are boring people and it would be nice if they had a bit more depth, other than being Supermen. I almost didn't read this because I'm tired of Sigma Force, but I'm glad I did.
Book Review: ... Summary: 4 Stars
I've only read 2 of his novels (Doomsday Key and this one), and in terms of action, I liked the Doomsday Key better, but for drama, I'd go with this. I actually never expected it, but I was crying like a kid while reading the last few chapters. The action was still good though.
One of my problems with the novel was that I felt that there were some things missing in the story, and some parts felt kind of awkward. The "formula" in his stories, as mentioned by one of the reviewers, was also very evident. I actually had a couple of "I knew it" moments, so I should probably stay out of the Sigma series, unless the others have the same formula as well. -_-
Kowalski was funnier than ever though.
All in all, it was a fun experience reading the book.
