Book Reviews of The Last Oracle: A Sigma Force Novel

Book Review: not as good as other SIGMA books
Summary: 4 Stars

I accidently bought "The Doomsday Key" and read it before I read this book. Then I bought "The Last Oracle" and read it right after.

I have been a Rollins fan since his first book. This one is not my favorite. Although still a very good book, the subject matter just didn't grab me like his other books. However, I will tell you that this is the only Rollins novel that made me cry. Not going to spoil it, but the part at the end with Piotr and Marta had me sobbing. But a book that elicits great emotion is also a winner. The style of the writing just made the story feel different and the subject matter was absolutely depressing (and disturbing), but I will say it made me do research on the Ural mountains and Lake Karachay. Definitely makes you think . . . and cry.

Book Review: Good concept
Summary: 5 Stars

This novel had a fantastic concept. The book starts off with a scene from Ancient Greek times, with the last Oracle of Delphi escaping Roman armies. The question that arises in the reader's mind is, what does that have anything to do with the overall plot of the book?

This novel has two different plots. One involves the Sigma team solving a mystery left behind by a homeless man, suffering from radiation poisoning. The other plot involves a man with apparent amnesia trying to navigate his way across the radioactive southern Ural Mountains with a group of kids.

The way that James Rollins weaves this story answers the original question with near-perfect clarity, down to the very last detail. The plot of the story is very engaging.

Book Review: fast packed action
Summary: 5 Stars

I have read everyone of James Rollins paperbacks since this past summer and now am just waiting for his latest hard copy to come out in paperback. This novel, The Last Oracle, follows the Sigma force and brings back a favorite character. The interweaving of science this time with adding nano neurons to savant people to increase their abilities make for another fascinating novel. I do hope to see the Sigma novels in a future movie house or as a TV series. James Rollins novels has moved to higher levels since Indiana Jones. I cannot wait for the next one.The Last Oracle

Book Review: Normal People Write Reviews Too
Summary: 5 Stars

I used to shy away from writing reviews because it looks like most reviews are written by a professional writer themselves. But the reviews I find most helpful are the reviews that seem like just a regular Joe wrote them so... James Rollins is one of my favorite authors of all time. He is amazing at keeping your attention and keeping the story entertaining. If you like action adventures and enjoy learning some real history you will love The Last Oracle (or any other James Rollins book). This book will take you all over and you will learn about some very interesting things such as Chernobyl, The Oracle of Delphi, and even the US capitol Washington, DC.

Book Review: Start with the Beginning, Sandstorm....
Summary: 4 Stars

Pros: James Rollins techno thrillers. Reasonably well thought out techno thriller with enjoyable characters, generally well rooted in history.

Cons: Moves too fast, or moves on too many fronts at once. This leaves a feeling that the characters aren't developed enough.

Other: Start with Sandstorm and work through the Sigma Force novels. You can do them out of order, but I don't advise it. Rollins is a good, almost-quick hit author. He's technically correct, which I appreciate, yet maintains a bit of the fantastic, which is almost required to make a good novel.
