Book Review: Beautifully written first half ... the

latter was a bit more choppy and disjointed. Soap opera-ish. It seems like Brashares was trying to make the love story more dramatic by centering the betrayel around Riley and her condition.
I personally would've been more happy had the story ended at the end of the summer when they left Fire Island. Perhaps a change of heart or lovers' quarrel would've been a better, simpler wedge driven between Paul and Alice.
Some other reviewers seemed to think that the first half didn't have enough substance as a story, that it was more description and re-telling of memories. To me, though, that was my favorite part.
Sometimes it's nice to be swept away by another's reveries.
