Book Reviews of The Last TheoremBook Review: Promises, promises Summary: 2 Stars
I have been reading Clarke for 45 years, and until this book, always enjoyed his work.
It gets off to a promising start, and then just sort of wanders around. Though while wandering, Clarke presents his idea of a Congress composed of individuals randomly selected by computer from the population, and the UN taking a hyper-aggressively proactive approach towards world peace by dropping non-lethal EMP bombs on rogue countries.
All in all, not really recommended as a good sci fi read.
Book Review: If you're a Clarke/Pohl groupie, you gotta have it.. Summary: 3 Stars
I've been a huge Clarke and Pohl fan, so there was no way I was not going to get this book. I would give it a B minus. The only real negative I feel I need to commment on is the ridiculous Lt. Col. Bledsoe character, who seemed like a cartoonish stereotype from Dr. Strangelove. A military man, in our near future or present, calling the Russians "Russkies" and the Chinese "Chinks" ? Maybe the authors don't care for the U.S. Military, but this is a dopey way to express it. Still, overall I enjoyed the book.
Book Review: Not what I expected.... Summary: 2 Stars
I rather expected some fun with Fermat's theorem, which is kind of interesting, and some of the usual Clarke slightly off the wall stuff (like "City And The Stars")....
Instead a travelogue of Sri Lanka, and a whole bunch of stuff that never quite came together....
Good enough if you like Clarke, but not up to standard....
I suppose it's some kind of "must have" for Clarke fans, but I would have been happier to have spent less....
Regards....
Book Review: The Last Theorem Summary: 5 Stars
Very enjoyable book, Sir Lanka native Ronji a mathmatical wizard takes the reader on a journey of inter development as he progress through life and those around him while twisting the plot into a sci fi visits from beyond earth galaxy. I really enjoy reading the space travels and sports competition and how his daughter had to over come the weightlessness world. The book gave some thought on our future travel and use of energy in this delightful tale of one family adventures.
Book Review: major disappointment Summary: 1 Stars
If you want to read about anti-American views and homosexual glorification that has nothing at all to do with the story being told, this is it. This book is a total joke. Clarke's grand finale just shows how bad he hated America, what a strong socialist if not communist he was, and how pro-homo he was. If you're looking for a sci-fi story, all you'll get is an opiniated, bitter, hateful, old man, with a sorry excuse for a book, lashing out at anything American.
