Book Reviews of The Lion & the MouseBook Review: Best Children's Book Ever! (and great for adults too) Summary: 5 Stars
This book was recommended to me by a friend who had purchased it for her grandson. Since it has no actual written story, it truly challenges the creative mind of each child who reads it. The illustrations are amazing! The facial expressions of the lion are absolutely beautiful.
My granddaughter wants to read it over and over and each time embellishes it a little with her own story. I plan to order a copy for myself soon - this Aesop's fable has never been told as well!
Book Review: Great choice for my six year-old boy Summary: 5 Stars
I won't bother to repeat what others have said. I have a kindergartener who is not yet reading (much) who really enjoys telling this story through the pictures. Each time we flip through the beautiful artwork, he varies or adds to the story a bit more. He enjoys doing the voices for the mouse and the lion.
The art is lovely and pleasing to the eye. And having a book that requires our son to create the words, has been a nice change.
Book Review: Best Picture book of the Year! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is fantastic for creating dialogue with kids of all ages. Our four year old absolutely loves this book. We can read it tons of different ways and each time we read it, we seem to add more story to the story. We've had so much fun imagining what the lion and the mouse are thinking, saying, and doing. It's brilliantly illustrated and the story is such a tender and wonderful old tale retold. This is a must for every home library shelf.
Book Review: Powerful picture book Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the most wonderful picture books I've ever seen! The drawings pull you into the story. The colors are so rich. The author captures the whole traditional story line of a tiny mouse helping a big lion without words and you are so pulled in by the movement and expressions and richness of detail that you will want to read it over and over. And because it's wordless even the very young will enjoy "reading" it.
Book Review: Outstanding Summary: 4 Stars
If the amazing lion's face on the cover doesn't impress you, you're just not a fan of children's book art. Pinkney's The Lion and the Mouse is a treasure for anyone, regardless of age, who enjoys and appreciates the art of illustration. Buy it for your favorite child--they're sure to love it. Or buy it for yourself, take a break from real life, find a comfy chair and smile your way through this beautiful book.
