Book Reviews of The Little Black Book of Style

Book Review: A fun read but not a whole lot of helpful information.
Summary: 3 Stars

The book is well written and the illustrations are really beautiful. Who knew that Nina Garcia has such a wonderful sense of humor! The first part of the book is helpful in terms of providing information you can use and implement. The last half is just fluff. She highlights fashion icons and includes mini-interviews with designers. She tries to show you where to go for inspiration. That's fine, but I bought her book because I wanted to hear what SHE had to say. This book and Tim Gunn's book echo each other in terms of 'must haves' for every womens closet so if you've read his book, definitely skip this one. In fact, I think you can get more fashion tips just from looking at the stunning illustrations than by reading the text.

Book Review: For every fashionista
Summary: 5 Stars

It was great to see someone who actually works in style/fashion and grew up in a world where couture came first to explain and break down what it means to dress fashionably in EVERY season. She placed emphasis on always being true to one's self and size. And that one should always have the basics and classics (items that never go out of style) . She also said that trends are fun but everything does NOT look good on every body! I completely agree with that. Also if your trying to imitate a certain style or find your signature look this book definitely helps. It has historical information as well as opinion and family stories. Her mother actually gave her seamstress a key to their house and eventually made her move in! Too funny!!!

Book Review: Little Black Book Of Style
Summary: 4 Stars

I really enjoyed this book, but then again I am into fashion, admire Nina Garcia, and am always seeking ways to improve and enhance my appearance. The illustration is well done and the tips provided are helpful.

My true recommendation - "Number one - if you want to look as if you have a personal stylist coaching and assisting you with your appearance and fashion purchases, this book is for you. Number two - if you are looking for a quick read with a hint of fashion history, recommendations on high quality designer shoes, how to avoid fashion faux pas, clothing and accessory purchases you will also enjoy this book".

Book Review: a waste of a library "reserve"
Summary: 1 Stars

This was such a "duh" book, I was sorry I wasted one of my free Library reserves on it!!! You know the writer's in lala land, when one of the inspirational women of "fashion" include Cher....yup, nothing says style like a feathered boa headress and one inch long dresses.

I also find it ironic that she disses women who buy the "it" bag, yet she lists 5 designer bags as "must haves" (all of them costing thousands of dollars, of course).

All in all, there was more thought put into the artsy sketches and "fashion quotes", than in the sketchy "writing" that makes up the bulk of this book.

Book Review: Doesnt help you learn about how to style
Summary: 1 Stars

There is nothing in this book that will help you dress or style better. I dont understand why is so difficult to write tips that can help women learn and understand how to dress according to their body type.

I mean, the reason why Im buying this book is to learn how to style. Instead, she talks about designer picks, like how this designer says you should like cashmere, or the top 5 celebrities she think are stylish.. etc. Nothing really helpful.

Everything here you could've read it in any Cosmo magazine.
