Book Reviews of The Liver Cleansing DietBook Review: Literally saved a good friend's life and greatly improved ours! Summary: 5 Stars
Our friend, Rab, was hospitalized very near death from liver failure. He colapsed at work and was taken away by paramedics unconscious. He did not regain consciousness for several days. Due to my husband having been diagnosed with liver disease, we had been following the book and gave one to Rab's wife. Since we were following the diet and had had blood work showing a drastic improvement, we knew it worked, but did not know if Rab could be helped. The doctor did not think his liver could recover. I think many doctors do not put much faith in "natural healing" or in people being able to change their lives and the very bad habits that got them sick in the first place! Thanks to Ms. Cabot's book both Rab and my husband, proved this type of thinking absolutely wrong!! Both of these men had severly abused their livers with drugs, both prescription and "recreational" as well as alcohol and cigarettes. Both are very healthy and watching their children grow up! Rab completely changed his life. He no longer drinks, smokes or takes any drugs at all, even avoiding otc meds. My husband was not as ill as Rab so still has drinks occasionally. The diet is easy and very tasty. It is also easy to personalize the recipes to your family's taste. Once you become familiar with the nutritional concepts, you can make almost any recipe liver healthy with a few changes.
Book Review: very little useful information on the liver Summary: 1 Stars
I feel cheated because this book could have been written by simply looking up basic facts on the liver from an encyclopedia, and it seems it is simply geared toward convincing you to buy her liver cleansing pills or powder.
The book consists of this: 20% scare tactics on liver disease; 20% buy my pills to cure yourself; 20% testimonials; 40% basic diet guidelines and sample menus and recipes.
I was looking for a lot more details on the liver, how it functions, and specifically steatohepatitis. There is some of this in the book but just a few pages at a fifth grade level.
The author's dietary advice is no different than the standard consensus of minimizing carbs and sugar, and increasing good fats, lean meats, and fiber. My preference for this information is the South Beach diet book. I had hoped that Cabot's book would cover liver disease as effectivey as the South Beach covered weight gain, insulin, and diabetes. But it absolutely does not.
Book Review: Improve Liver Function Summary: 5 Stars
The author provides a number of very good approaches toward improving liver function. The work will be helpful for hepatitis B,C patients, as well as, a tonic for general health.
The book advises us to listen to our bodies and drink up to 12 glasses of water daily. The mainstay of the diet includes low fat protein, seeds, nuts and soy.
Our main objective in the daily diet is to reduce white sugar consumption, gluten,
allergy foods (i.e. lobster)and promote intestinal hygiene.
Certain supplements aid in liver function. i.e.
o taurine
o dandelion
o milk thistle
o livatone +
Good sources of daily nutrition are:
o avocado
o tuna
o melon
o leek soup
o lentil soup
o zucchini
This book is excellent for anyone attempting to craft a model diet and feel better naturally without the use of too many drugs and/or inorganic substances.
Book Review: It really works. Summary: 5 Stars
I followed this book's diet TO THE LETTER. My doctor said it was impossible to reduce my cholesterol using diet alone, and mine went down 150 points after 8 weeks on the diet.
A word of caution: this is a lifestyle, not just a remedy. But the recipes in this book were so good that my entire family didn't mind eating my "diet" foods with me! Great work, Dr. Cabot! I am so glad to have some directions on how to pursue a course of repair instead of taking pills I didn't want anyway.
Book Review: Liver Cleansing Diet Summary: 5 Stars
I love reading books about health. I've read at least 5 books on liver care since my brother became ill with liver disease. I have to say this is the best. It is very comprehensive, meaning not only does it educate you about your liver but it also deals with all of the diseases affecting your liver. Dr. Cabot shows you how step by step to change all of that. She also gives you a regimen to follow, complete with recipes to help flush your liver. Excellent book!
