Book Reviews of The Long Hard Road Out of Hell

Book Review: Good study in ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder)
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm going to keep this short. First of all, everyone "inside" the music biz knows Manson, Brian Warner, is an "act". He tried for years to get his conventional rock band signed to a major label, with no success. He adopted the satanic persona to get a record deal.

His "stage philosophy" is a teenager's poor understanding of the works of Frederick Nietzsche.

Nietzsche, however confused he was, did not approve of using drugs or drunkeness, and I don't think he would approve of Manson. During his lifetime Nietzsche wrote how amused he was that so many people whose philosophy he did not approve of, never-the-less thought they found approval for themselves or their cause in his writings.

The real value of this book is that it may help parents struggling with an ODD child/teen to understand what is going on. What you will learn is that it is usually, though not always, the parents fault for ODD (not a chemical imbalance), and ODD in children and teens is based in rank parental hypocrisy, expecially when the hypocrisy is tied in with shallow religion.

When parents mess up their kids in this way, you give them over to the dark side.

This book should be required reading for all people who have children in this toxic Western culture. Should make a wonderful baby shower gift.

Book Review: A great read for Manson lovers and haters
Summary: 5 Stars

Now there are two reasons i picked up this great book A. I am a huge fan of Mr. mansons music B. i wanted to learn more about the man behind all of the controversy the media consistantly brings up whenever his name is mentioned. From the 1st page on i was engrossed in this brilliant book he hides nothing and tells all, embarresing or not, disturbing or not, trouble with trent reznor( ex good friend and the man behind NIN) the problems he had with his bandmates his childhood, parents, grandparents, everything. You do learn alot and find its not about controversy to him its about being him and it offends you thats your problem he even ha a uote that i love " if you want to be like me then be who you really are." As you read along you realize he grew up somewhat normal(some what being the key word) was outcasted as a boy loved music was very creative Some parts though are just so out there, that they may have been fabrigated a bit, those parts will shock die hard hristians if they have the decency to put there gos aside and read this book. The reason the haters of manson should read this manly is even if you hate him you can learn why he is and theres reasons why so pick this book up put your weak ehar aside ( if you have one) and enjoy a good autobiography but an intelligent rockstart enjoy and beware once you pick this book up it might be hard to put down.

Book Review: Fun and easy to read autobiography.
Summary: 3 Stars

I've always respected Marilyn Manson for numerous reasons that may not make much sense to list here. I think this book of course is a better resource for personal information on him because it's straight from the horse's mouth. I do however believe some of it's details are likely fabricated and likely in place to support the emotional curves that create a personality that is so popularity withheld as skewed. Mr. Manson can not after all appear wholly normal he'd lose his fan base. Manson is one of the few real rock n' roll acts to gain popularity out of recent times. This is simply because his behavior and lyrics push so many buttons with the general public. I am one of those people that believes if rock n' roll is done "right" it really is the devil's music. I'd have to say Manson is a bit of a rock n' roll traditionalist more than he is some religious deconstructor. This is a fun read, especially for younger readers that can relate to many of the problems Warner experienced in adolescence. While most parents don't want Manson as a role model and as such will try to keep this book far from their children I think this is a bit unfair. Manson has always seemed the type that would encourage people to act in their own manner and not like himself. He's far from a role model and I think attempts to keep himself intentially so.

Book Review: The Man, The Myth, The Book
Summary: 5 Stars

Marilyn Manson is one of the best authors I have read anything by recently. His autobiograpy (with Neil Straus assisting)is hands down an amazing look into the life of a televangelist's worst enemy. The book basically flows in chronological order, with a few unpublished magazine articles strewn about in the middle to tell that part of the story, which took place during the recording process for "Smells Like Children". Otherwise, the stories from his childhood, to the days of trying to get a record deal, to the backstage antics on tour, the story definitely keeps your attention. From some of the more twisted to the tame, I'm not sure if anything has been imbellished by Manson, but even if it has that should not turn anyone away from reading this incredible work. Everybody should read this book. While fans on Manson, Nietzsche, and Anton Szandor LaVey would enjoy the book the most, even people who don't especially like Marilyn Manson will get a better understanding of where he's coming from and what his real message is, not what they take it to be from the shock-rock antics on stage and on television. But if you don't want to be enlightened on the brilliant mind behind the man, at least find the book in the library, and read over his "rules", which show his cynical and tell-all humor.

Book Review: Completely Compulsive Reading
Summary: 4 Stars

Being quite new to the Manson phenomenon, I have spent the last 12 months buying all his C.D's, VHS's and books, this book however stand's out from the crowd. There are many things in this highly informative document that many people will identify with. Be warned though, he does not pull any punches and puts scathing attacks on authoritive figures such as his teachers and other religious people. It would be far to easy to say that he does what he does just for effect, there is a highly intelligent man behind the make-up. This book show's the 2 sides of manson that make him so compelling to fans like me, It reveals how he was a loner and outcast at school and was regularly teased about his appearance by the girls he liked. It documents in detail his early music performances with the spooky kids, everything is included in this book, from drugs, sex, abusing groupies, family revelations and his own morals by which he lives his life. He has never forgot the harsh treatment he recieved while growing up and this shows in all of his work and makes him the ultimate spokesman for the large and ever growing band of non religious people worldwide. This book also tells of his painfull transformation from a quietly spoken gentle guy from Ohio to the the all seething all raging rock icon of today. Don't miss this one.
