Book Reviews of The Magnesium Miracle

Book Review: One very important mistake
Summary: 3 Stars

I found one very important mistake. On page 154 in the chapter about osteoporosis and kidney stones, in a box labeled "Supplements for Osteoporosis" she lists "Vitamin A 20,000 IU daily (forms bone matrix)". There are several studies about vitamin A and bone density that show that vitamin A above 5,000 IU daily is bad for the bones. Since many foods, such as low fat milk and margarine are fortified with vitamin A, it is very easy to get a toxic amount of vitamin A, even if you take only a multivitamin. Some multi-vitamins or cod liver oil can put you in the toxic range. Beta carotene, a precursor to vitamin A, does not harm the bones, so look for a supplement with mostly beta carotene, rather than retinol.

Also, in the same box, she lists "Vitamin D 1,000 IU daily or 20 minutes in the sun." According to most vitamin D scientists, most adults need 2,000 to 5,000 IU daily of Vitamin D, at least in the winter, in order to have optimum vitamin D levels in the blood. A hundred pound person might do well with 2,000 IU, but a 250 pound person might need 5,000 IU. However, if a person takes a lot of vitamin D (over 2,000 IU), it is best to have the doctor check your vitamin D level and calcium level every few months.

Book Review: E-Book Corrupted
Summary: 1 Stars

I can not be certain how much of what I read was the author's and how much of it was altered by an outside source. The data was often difficult to read with gaps between numbers. As the author began to offer ideas for food preparations, when she recommended a crockpot for cooking, someone slipped in crackpot instead. This was not one typo, but occurred in any paragraph with the obvious original word crockpot demeaningly presented as crackpot. Thus, I must conclude that the e-version does not reflect the entirety of the author's work or intention.

In other words, this is not a review of the book, but of the e-book version. Amazon has been notified, but all I received was a canned notice asking me to give them more details about the problems and warning me that if they had to refund the book, I wouldn't have access to it. In other words, I was supposed to know how much of what I read was like the original and how much of it wasn't. Plus I should fear not having access to the corrupted version!

This was my first Kindle read, and I am sincerely disappointed. I never imagined content could or would be manipulated.

Book Review: Important information
Summary: 4 Stars

Magnesium is so important for general health and doubly so when you have a serious disease (such as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis). It plays important roles in heart health, muscle function, neurological function and so much more.

This book talks a lot about how magnesium can help in many differnet condition. This book contains little practical information about supplementation however. There is not much in detail information about the use of magnesium oil or doses of magnesium over 400 - 600 mg being needed by many ill people. Carolyn Deans website is an excellent source of this information though, and so much more, and it is regularly updated and so very up-to-date. (Magnesium oil is recommended on the site, among other forms.)

This book is worth reading, but to fully educate yourself about this topic you really do need to view Dean's website as well. I also like her free e-newsletter.

Book Review: Do YOU Need More Magnesium?
Summary: 5 Stars

Magnesium is often overlooked when we talk about nutrient deficiencies. Many common symptoms can be explained by not having enough magnesium in your diet. Dr. Dean discusses a wide variety of complaints that just might be remedied with the proper daily dose of magnesium. I have personally suffered from insomnia in the past. The two things that I changed to naturally solve the problem were, increasing my magnesium intake and meditating more regularly. These two changes worked for me. I was very happy to find a natural solution instead of taking pills from a doctor.

It's quite difficult to get all the magnesium that we need from our diet. Dr. Dean discusses the magnesium content in many foods and also different forms and effectiveness of magnesium supplements.

If you are looking for ways to improve your nutrition or have a nagging or chronic health issue, check out this book. Magnesium just might be your Miracle!

Book Review: I wish every form of health practitioner read this book
Summary: 5 Stars

This is another book I bought after reading a the previous version from our local library. It is amazing and has really helped us out so much. I use the magnesium products from Joan Schrader at Health and Wisdom and it is rebuilding my health so much in needed ways. It also enabled us to conceive again! Magnesium is directly related to infertility and a host of other health problems that are consistently prescribed for or treated in other ways including by homeopaths and naturopaths because not enough is known about this most vital mineral, magnesium.

It is so very readable and many, many 'ah-hah!' moments will follow as it is read. It is important, as with anything, to not read with any resentments or negativity, but to read in order to discover and learn.
