Book Reviews of The Man Who Ate EverythingBook Review: Hilarious and impossible to put down Summary: 5 Stars
I read this book in no time at all. I have found myself picking it up again and again to read the odd chapter. His recipes are superb and the writing is fantastic. His comments about everything from fruitcake to spit roasting are so funny I found myself falling out of my chair laughing. I would recommend this book to anyone regardless of your interest in food. He pulls you into the world of gastronomy like whirlwind until you find yourself intensely interested in everything gastronomic.
Book Review: Fun Reading Summary: 5 Stars
If you love cooking and enjoy good food, this is the book for you! Jeffrey Steingarten takes you along as he searches for the best granita, the perfect french fries and the best restaurants. You get to explore places and cities all around the world - from his own home kitchen to small towns in Italy. A wonderful book for summer reading. Keep in mind that this is not a cookbook. There are some recipes but this is a book about the cooking, baking and eating experience.
Book Review: Still good years later. Summary: 5 Stars
I really enjoy Jeffrey Steingarten's critiques on Food Network's Iron Chef America, so it should come as no surprise that I loved his book. His sparkling wit takes what could have been a very dated book (it was published over ten years ago and some of the articles are even older than that) and keeps it as fresh as his performance on ICA. His writing is clear and engaged, very conversational, and very enjoyable. If you like him at the judging table, you'll enjoy the book as well.
Book Review: Witty, wry, and delectable Summary: 5 Stars
Steingarten combines passion, curiosity, erudition, and his lovely wry writing to make a great food book. His scholarly digging and his willingness to use the scientific method to test things is remarkable (his chapter on water, for example). He also finds some real food curiosities such as the Thompson Turkey.Anyone who relishes seeing an active, far ranging mind at work will love this book. Great gift book. Easy to read a chapter at a time.
Book Review: What a disappointment! Summary: 1 Stars
I was eagerly waiting for the arrival of this book. It seemed so interesting and original... Wrong! I started reading it and found myself just skipping page after page. I have a pretty good sense of humour, but I found nothing funny in this book. Just some rattling of someone who thinks he is funny and who is apparently as much in love with himself as he is with some of the food he eats. I really do not recommend this book.
