Book Reviews of The Marlinspike SailorBook Review: MARLIN SPIKE SAILOR Summary: 5 Stars
I WAS LOOKING FOR A BOOK TO EXPLAIN AND SHOW HOW TO TIE MORE COMPLEX KNOTS. THIS BOOK FILLED MY NEEDS. I WASN'T LOOKING FOR EXOTIC KNOTS, BUT "MONKEY FIST", AND THE LIKE.
DIAGRAMS ARE GREAT, AND I SUCCEEDED ON THE FIRST TRY.
GREAT FOR "BOY SCOUTS" AND THOSE LOOKING TO SPRUCE UP THEIR KNOTWORK.
Book Review: Top Notch Summary: 5 Stars
An excellent book for anyone interested in rope. Beautifully illustrated. This could be as close as I get to a stroll on deck of a turn of the century clipper ship.
The diagrams are clear and concise but again, in my opinion it's the illustration that sets this book above the rest.
Book Review: A necessary resource for the traditional boatowner! Summary: 5 Stars
Marlinspike Sailor is a "must" for anyone interested in making all the little extras that finish off a traditional wooden boat (rope ladders, fenders, baggywrinkle, etc.). The directions for each project are clear and well-illustrated; the end result is usually very nice!
Book Review: Very out dated Summary: 2 Stars
With the exception of some pages that have been added in the back on braided rope this book is horribly outdated. The newer section is just reprints from Sampson rope splices which are available on the web. Unless you are restoring an old square masted sailing craft don't bother.
Book Review: Easier to handle than Ashley Summary: 5 Stars
What a fantastic book. If you would like to learn how to do any number of very cool things with rope, and to do them without (much) frustration, I can't recommend a better book. Plus, there are some fun projects that are not rope based but well worth the effort.
