Book Review: Just For Sh**s and Giggles...

It was about a week before Thanksgiving and my wife comes home and was really excited. Now normally when she comes home from work, I have to sweet talk her into not putting a noose around her neck and we'll sit over some dinner and talk about the day. She was really excited because her friend gave her some information regarding "a cleanse". Immediately I perked up because I am into anything that would make me look like more of a weirdo than I already am.
"It's the Master Cleanse and my friend has been on it now for twenty days and he thinks it's just incredible..."
Now I have heard about this cleanse before. In fact, I read the manual about three years ago when a friend was on it. She didn't do too well. When they found her she had already been dead for three days but she did exude a fresh, lemony scent.
I'M KIDDING!
Actually, she said that when the directions are met and followed, they produce absolutely incredible results. Now you have to understand this friend of mine, she has always been "one clown short of a circus" if y'know what I mean, but when we were talking - and we were talking in a public place for a considerable length of time - she remained focused, clear, and highly intelligible. She said that there was no way that she would go back to her Taco Bell, Snicker, and Cola diet. She said she had no idea how crazy all that sugar was making her. She should've come to me. I would've told her.
This book can actually be read over the course of a day. Please read it thoroughly. Don't read it like you read 'War and Peace' and say after an hour and a half you know what it means. Really read it and underline parts that stuck out at you and read them again.
I love supporting my wife and I will do anything to support something that I know will make us feel better. I am at a point in my life now where I'm not too skeptical - which is weird because I'm about four years shy of being 50 - but I listen to that part of mind now that tends to know the truth and the minute I heard about the Master Cleanse i was on board, it just took me three years to get to the train station.
The cleanse is a drink based on lemon (or lime juice), pure maple syrup (sorry, that brown bottle shaped like a grandma and talks and giggles to you while eating a crapload of pancakes isn't gonna cut it), cayenne pepper and purified water. It sounds like a chemistry experiment gone wrong, but I have to say it is probably one of the greatest things I have ever tasted.
Seriously.
And you really think that after your first glass of it, the next ten days or however long you plan on going on it are gonna be a breeze. I wish I could tell you that this was so, but it's not. Being on this fast for only two days made me realize just how psychologically the human race is tiied into food. Now, granted you never starve on this cleanse. You will feel hunger and to me, it felt like a wave rolling up within me and if I stayed with the wave, the hunger subsided; if I let it get the best of me, I felt helpless and wanted to break open that locked glass box I have filled with Cheetos for those unexpected "emergencies" like Armageddon or my relatives coming over and I need to be in a sodium induced coma.
I have to tell you that after the cleanse was over, I felt like a million dollars...not a million dollars by today's standards cuz that would only be about $129.63 but I feel like a million dollars from 1955...I feel spacious. That is absolutely the best word I can come up with.
Spacious.
I feel spacious in mind and body and spirit and because I want to show off my poetry skills, I also feel gracious. I am just happier. And no, I didn't want to rip into a big enchillada dinner at my favorite Mexican place after the cleanse, I went and got some sushi and I have to tell you, I can eat more fish than a Bull Seal, but I had two spicy tuna handrolls, some miso soup, seaweed salad and green tea and I felt like a pig. I was absolutely stuffed. Usually, I have to take a second out on my home to pay the sushi bill, but it was nice handing them a $50 and getting change back.
I'm not into fads...well, I did buy two pet rocks in the 70s and I feel bad because I never really did give them the attention they deserved...and I really would not consider the Master Cleanse a fad. I would consider this book and this cleanse a gift to yourself. I lost fifteen pounds but I didn't need to lose weight to begin with...I'm built like a god...but I did it because I desired something more. I didn't exactly know, but now I do.
I wanted to feel spacious. Not just alive. Spacious.
Make 2011 Heaven and give yourself a cleanse. You'll lose weight, you'll gain clarity, your poo will look like modern art...oh, the benefits are too enormous to count!
