Book Reviews of The Master Cleanser: With Special Needs and Problems

Book Review: Energized and content
Summary: 5 Stars

We are still drinking the lemonade, and always plan to. My husband and I stayed on the diet for 9 days. We could have gone longer, but our granddaughter was getting married and we needed the extra day to "come down" from the diet.

We had started with a 3-day diet and liked the lemonade and the results. So we just started drinking it after the fast, and kept losing mucous and junk. We eat veggies, fruit, and beans & rice, mostly. We have grown to love eating that way.

Before we started our 10-day fast, we took a trip to ID. We drove 18 hours straight from KS to ID. We had energy all the way. We ate veggies and drank fruit smoothies all the way. It was wonderful. We had all the energy we needed to stay alert. I have arthritic knees, and they didn't get stiff at all. Each time I got out of the car, I was able to stand without pain. We were happy and content on the whole trip.

When we got home we immediately started our 10-day fast. We never got hungry. I missed the veggies and Dave missed the beans & rice sometimes, but we were NOT hungry. We both felt so clean and content, knowing that we'd lose the toxins and mucous.

We use very hot ceyenne pepper...180,000 hu. We put it in our 32 oz bottles. We love the bite.

We have been off the fast for 9 days now, and are still drinking the lemonade and drinking the tea. We are eating our regular healthy food, and are still losing toxins and mucous. We don't eat meat or dairy, or any of the poisonous foods on the supermarket shelves. We do most of our shopping at coops. Shopping is so easy now. No more wandering down endless aisles at the supermarket. What we buy may cost more, but we're saving on all the other ... stuff that we're no longer eating. It's such a satisfying and healthy way of eating.

We will continue to drink the lemonade and do the fast every so often. We buy our maple syrup and ceyenne pepper on the Internet. It saves us lots of money.

I am so thankful for the book, that my daughter found on the Internet. She is starting the diet today for 10 days. I want to try it again for about 20 days soon. I feel very healthy and clean and am full of energy, which we did not have before. There is such a difference.

Hope that you younger people will try it too. Most of my children say, "that's fine, if you can have that much will power to drink the stuff, and if that's the way you want to eat, but we want to eat our way, so please don't push your lifestyle on us." I know that it's age talking, but I want so much for them and my grandchildren to also be healthy. It is life-changing. Please try it.

Book Review: Easier than you think..
Summary: 5 Stars

It's hard not to write a book on this experience, but I'll try to keep it short.

1. Read it. It seems to be the obvious thing to do, but I find most people do it, just by getting the recipe. There's some enlightening and important info in this book that will help keep you on the track to a healthier life.

2. Map out your plan. I worked full time at a Lebanese restaurant as a waitress and I was glad to have started on an off day. First day is the hardest, not only b/c of the hunger pangs but b/c it's sooooo easy to break it on the first day.

3. Drink enough-even if it means more than what the book calls for. It's true that you won't be too fatigued, but I should've had more b/c I'm at an average weight and I worked (as a waitress-which means more activity). Follow your instincts.

4. Do it for all the right reasons. The right reasons being for changing your life and diet for the better. Don't do it just to lose weight. If you do, you won't follow through and even if you follow through, you'll hurt yourself by gaining the weight back and throwing your body off balance. Trust me, I've had two friends do it and broke it off on the second day.. or just cheated and it just made them crazy. Mentally prepare yourself for great changes.

5. Have support and educate yourself about food. If no one in your immediate environment is not supportive, read any literature that is. It's more important than you think, especially when you're idle with free time (from not cooking/eating). Best way, if possible, is to do it with a dedicated partner.

BENEFITS
You will read about the benefits throughout this booklet. Personally, my benefits exceed whatever inconvenience or 'torture' my tastebuds and cravings went through in those 11 days.
1. Allergies have improved immensely.
2. lost weight(15lbs.), gained some of it back but did not want to lose weight before the fast.
3. I felt completely light and had a sense of peace that I'd never experienced before.
4. I don't struggle with food anymore. My attitude about food has changed completely. Food can be healing and to clean out like this is like having a clean slate to start life over again.
5. Remember, it's easy to dehydrate but it's hard to starve to death. What keeps you going are the simple ingredients that you add to water.

Most of all, if you do this properly and follow a good diet of nutritious and good food afterwards, you will be happy you did.

Book Review: WARNING! Several major claims are false!
Summary: 3 Stars

First off, let me start by saying that I have not yet tried this diet, and I am not writing this review to claim either way whether it has the intended effects or not.

My main point is to warn future readers of this book on some of the serious ommissions or errors in some of the claims that this book makes on the body's physiology.

Mainly there are two points:

1) The author claims that this diet is effective as a "reduction" (or weight-loss) diet. While it is very true that you WILL lose a lot of weight from this diet, be warned that at half, if not more, of the weight lost during the diet will be muscle and water. You are only consuming at most 1200 calories per day from this diet, and this includes no dietary fat or protein. In its natural state, the body will enter a catabolic state, and muscle WILL breakdown in order to help provide the energy you need from day to day. Because of the high carbohydrate content in the lemonade, the body will never enter ketosis (the state where the body attempts to spare protein when nutrition is insufficient.) In the long term, this is not an effective way to lose weight, as once the diet is ended most of the fat lost will eventually be regained because of the diminished metabolism induced by the diet.

2) On pages 27-28, the author goes into a short discussion defending his diet's complete lack of protein. Please believe me when I say that this is completely unscientific and wrong. While there are animals that can sustain it's protein requirement without consuming protein, we are not one of them. There is a list of "essential" amino acids, such as tryptophan, lysine, and histidine, which the human body cannot create, and must be consumed from food.

Overall, I would not recommend that anyone be on this diet for more than 2-3 weeks at a time at most. The diet is very seriously lacking in some essential macro and micro-nutrients.

Once again, please recognize that I am not debating the claimed benefits of this diet, but I am only trying to warn readers that the claims the author makes must be taken with a grain of salt and that caution should be used in following the author's recommendations outside of the actual diet.

Book Review: Did not do it to lose weight, but to cleanse my body!
Summary: 5 Stars

I didn't neccessarily do this fast to lose weight. I did it as a kind of "spring cleaning" if you will! And it was amazing how "clean" I felt after taking the salt water. Yes, the salt water is hard to swallow (doesn't taste very good) and I only took two cups of it every morning (half of reccomended- but I am smaller than most people) but it still worked. It was amazing that stuff was still being cleansed through the 10th day. And I am vegan, so I didn't expect it to be as bad as it would be for other people. I did this fast with my roomate and my boyfriend (who was in a different city). My roomate did not do the salt water because she didn't like the taste. She took laxative tea instead. I did not take the laxative tea because it gave me bad stomach cramps and made me feel sick to my stomach. My boyfriend took both the laxative tea in the evening and the salt water in the morning. For me, it was not hard to not eat, I had plenty of energy and I continued to bike commute to work. We have only been eating for about two weeks or less now, and I am staying away from sweets and eating more raw vegetables. Overall, this was not hard to do, it was definitely harder toward the end, and it made it worse to watch TV with all the food commercials and food programs. We were so happy to eat again, but really, I could have gone longer, as food did not seem all it was hyped up to be when we did start eating again. The things we missed most were taste and texture of food, and I found myself looking through my cookbooks and planning out things to cook and bake. You just don't realize how much food is a part of your life, and how many social activities revolve around food. The 10 days do go by slow, as you don't have anything to mark the time of the day (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Also, it's kinda funny how your jaw hurts after you start eating again, because it's not used to chewing! Overall, very highly reccomended, and is a great way to cleanse your body and exercise self-control. I find myself eating less now, and more fresh fruits and veggies than before. And I did end up losing a few pounds, too!

Book Review: Clean out your Act
Summary: 5 Stars

My friend Saralise told me to buy this book. Its the best purchase I ever made. Here is a summary of my experience so far...

Go RAW...anything cooked over 102* or processed doesn't provide your body with nutrition.

Rid your body of all toxins and disease. Eliminate all waste from your body
by using the following recipe from 10 upto 40 days. Nothing else may be eaten. Mint tea may also be used. As well as water.

Master Cleanser...

6 juiced limes (or lemons)

1tsp cayenne pepper

¾ cup maple syrup

100 oz of water

Makes a 2 day supply.

Drink (smooth move liquorish or chocolate) laxative tea morning and night.

[2 tspns sea salt mixed on stove with 4 cups water, drink hot like chicken soup one morning in beginning of cleanse. note, be prepared to be near a toilet all day.]

Drink Master Cleanser exclusively until the white on your tongue returns to a natural pink color.

Sea salt baths are an absolute delight, and an additional way to remove even more toxins...

Than final 3 days orange juice and vegetable soup, to get you ready to resume solid foods...

Some people do this cleanse a few times a year. It is considered a fast, as you will not eat any food. The nutrition in the recipe is enough to sustain you. Some people continue on with this drink for breakfast, as a way to maintain proper health balance.

I'm officially on Day 12.
Have seen major improvements in physical form and well being.
Lost 9 pounds. My tongue is 50% free of toxins at this stage.
Goal is to detoxify.
Loving the process. I have tons of energy.
Am not hungry. First 2 days when I got a little hungry,
just had some more of the drink. There is typically no hunger after day 3, however, I would recommend to stay away from food establishments, or grocery stores if possible, because you will feel desire, and maybe a little stomach growling at you if you do =)

xoxo Fran
