Book Review: A Response to a Less Than Positive Review

My name is Tony and I am the author of The Master Key Workbook. I want to take the time to respond to one critic'c comments about this work.
Yes, the Workbook does contain many quotes from The Master Key System. After all, this is the MASTER KEY Workbook. I begin each "Week" (Chapter) with Haanel's "Letter of Transmittal," his "Questions and Answers," and his "Exercise" for the Week. I did this so that one could use the book on its own, without having read or possessing a copy of The Master Key System.
I disagree that "two-thirds of it" is quotes from the MKS or other inspirational quotes. It just isn't. Yes, there are quotes; there are also explanations, explications, exercises, illustrations, insights ... "Two-thirds" is flat out wrong.
About the "disrespectful tone," I whole-heartedly disagree. Please allow me to show the passages to which Mr. Ryan refers in their context and you be the judge.
WEIRD FELLOW
"A weird fellow by the name of Baba Ram Dass wrote a book entitled Be Here Now. In it, he explains that we must take advantage of the moment and not let the mind drift from it. How many times have you missed something that was occurring because your mind was elsewhere? Perhaps you missed your son get a base-hit because you were worrying about a project at work. Mayhap you were having money troubles and did not allow yourself to fully enjoy the holidays."
Perhaps I should have put Baba Ram Dass in quote marks to correctly illustrate that I was being somewhat tongue-in-cheeck. That being the case, Baba Ram Dass WAS a weird guy. And HE would be the first person to say so! Do some research on Baba Ram Dass and let me know what you think. I am highly confident that after researching the man, you too will say that he's "weird" and that you'll say that he would say the exact same thing.
JUNK
"You probably know that old adage, 'One man's junk is another man's treasure.' As a matter of fact, you have probably seen or heard about it in operation. Perhaps you've seen the television show where auction people appraise what appears to be junk. They startle the owners of the junk by informing them that in truth, the 'junk' they possess is a valuable antique.
"Closer to home, you've probably seen this adage in operation. How many times have you uttered 'I thought of that' or 'I could do that better' when you see a person making money with a product or service. In operation, the adage becomes 'One man's junk is another man's fortune!'
"Within you is untapped power. There is 'junk' awaiting to be polished so that its true value can be ascertained. Your fortune is your mind! As you wait for things to happen for you, some one else is making things happen for them self. Why cannot you do the same?
"The answer is simple: There is no reason why you cannot take advantage of your ideas. You must take action. To take action, you have to know what is in your inventory. This week, you will concentrate on what you have. From that point you can spring into action and turn your 'junk' into your fortune."
Now, how is that disrespectful? I am making a point of the fact that what many of us view as junk is actually a treasure awaiting discovery! Mr. Ryan, how can you miss that point?
Mr. Ryan, regarding your comment on the list and what you view as a belittling tone is someone was to have written about a truly traumatic experience, I can see your point to a degree. Let's look at the example I gave for that exercise:
"If you find yourself unable to let go of certain feelings, then write down what that is. For example, if you are angry with someone for teasing you in high school, then write it down. When you have compiled your list, read it. I bet most (if not all) of those items look pretty silly. Look how little they look on paper! Realize how miniscule they are when compared to the grandness of your life."
For people who have had truly traumatic experiences, I would not recommend reading this book or ANY self-help book. Healing from experiences of those kind requires time and, perhaps, professional care. This book was not written for those people. I would think that any sane, rational person who went through a traumatic experience who read that comment and did that exercise would know that something truly MAJOR was not being requested.
Mr. Ryan, thank you for taking the time to review my work, but you were very incorrect in your assessment. I mean, how could you -- or ANYONE -- make your criticism about how I used the word "junk"? THAT truly baffles me and has me questioning your motives for your review. Seriously.
