Book Reviews of The Middle PlaceBook Review: Perfect Pitch Summary: 5 Stars
I want Kelly Corrigan to be in my family. I find the pitch of her humor to be perfect. If you were to read elsewhere about her father, a central figure in the book, I'm not sure you would like him. In her care, he is a treasure. That's the kind of person she is. She embraces flaws. The book is really about her experiences with cancer, hers and her father's. It is also about optimism, siblings, writing, publishing, parenting, and being Irish Catholic. This book should be in the hands of anyone going through cancer. I don't have cancer (T.G.) but the book really grabbed me. I can't recommend it enough.
Book Review: Great Memoir Summary: 4 Stars
I loved Kelly Corrigan's other book Lift so much I had to read this one too, and although I did not love it as much I did love it. I love her writing style, and her honesty. I too felt like an actor reading a role upon having my first child, and while becoming an adult. She writes with such insight, and I would be anxious to see how she wrote a fiction book. This memoir filled me with many happy moments and sad one, but one feeling was predominant, and that was a feeling of hope.
Book Review: One of my favorite books Summary: 5 Stars
This book is far and away, one of my favorite books. Kelly Corrigan writes about serious life issues (cancer, family illness, taking care of young children, etc.) with humility and humor. I found myself ignoring my sister and husband while we were on vacation so I could keep reading this book! I also found myself reading slower and not skimming (like I usually do!) to savor each page. I bought it for two friends already and have recommended it to many more. It is a must read!
Book Review: Surprisingly good Summary: 4 Stars
I had put off reading this book despite the hype because I thought it was a typical cancer memoir, and I was not in the mood to be bummed out. After continual word of mouth, I finally bought it. And I'm so glad I did. Yes, there are sad parts, but for me the book was much more about the process of becoming an adult amidst parents. I'd recommend this book for anyone who feels like they're sandwiched between childhood and adulthood, no matter what age.
Book Review: Loved it - I couldn't put it down - thought about calling in sick! Summary: 5 Stars
The emotions projected in Kelly's writing are incredible - you just feel like you have stepped in. I can relate so much, I am "in the middle" right now as well - although my kids are older and I certainly haven't fought and won the battles Kelly has, still I could relate in so many ways! Like Kelly, I saw myself with four or six kids and ended up, as fate would have it, with two great kids! I look forward to Kelly's next project.
