Book Review: sodium chlorite - MMS

A bit of cursory searching indicates that MMS is sodium chlorite which is used in paper production.

I'm assuming it's used because it's a bleaching agent. If it is, it's a powerful oxidizer, which could be dangerous in the same ways and for the same reasons that ingesting household bleach and other oxidizers such as hydrogen perogize would be dangerous. I am not a chemist but I am familiar enough with the concept of oxidation that I would never knowingly ingest any oxidizing agent.
Oxidation is also known as, and is associated with, and is said to induce the inevitable and inevitably harmful effects of aging.
Surely almost everyone has by now encountered discussions or articles about aging and antioxidants which nutrients that are said to counteract oxidation (aging).
Below is a statement about oxidation reactions in the human body by a National Institutes of Health researcher on aging (probably a PhD but possibly an M.D.):
"Oxidation Reaction Theory of Aging
Oxidation reactions occur when life essential oxygen combusts within the human body and produces by-products referred to as oxygen free radicals. When an oxidation reaction occurs in metals such as iron, everyone is aware that "rusting" occurs. When this same process occurs in people, it is called aging.
Free radicals produced by oxidation reactions are incomplete molecules that have lost an electron. When an oxygen molecule loses an electron, it is called singlet oxygen because only one of its electrons remains. Oxygen in this state is not stable. In an attempt restore balance, the free radical tries to steal an electron away from a nearby molecule, or donate its remaining electron to a nearby molecule. In doing so, the radical creates molecular instability that damages, disrupts, and even destroys nearby cells. If DNA is involved, the problem intensifies and genetic cell mutations may occur (a theory for the common cause of cancer). Uninhibited over time, free radical damage builds in the body, thus causing aging.
Free radicals are not only produced inside our bodies, but free radicals are also ingested through smoking, eating certain foods, water and air pollution, x-rays, extended exposure to the sun and a variety of other poisons we are exposed to in our every day environment.
E.R. Stadtman, a NIH researcher on aging, explains: "Aging is a disease. The human life span simply reflects the level of free radical oxidative damage that accumulates in cells. When enough damage accumulates, cells can't survive properly anymore and they just give up."
Deliberately speeding up the oxidation of body tissues using oxdizing agents (bleaches) might or might not have an effect on bacteria, viruses, parasites, and other causes of human illness, but the "cure" might be worse than the problem, and there would be no way to control the oxidizing reaction, what it might damage, or how damaging it might be. Once the chemical was ingested, there's no stopping it until its chemical reaction ran its course, similar to the way the critical mass of an atomic bomb works.
The science here is clear: sodium chlorite is a chemical that is used in paper-bleaching (an oxidating agent), it is not meant to be used in the human body. If it is, where are the peer-reviewed studies? If they exist, find them, post them here including the scientists who have written articles about and participated in the studies (the references), and let everyone know why this product works. Otherwise, this product and this book should be viewed with caution. No one, even the most fervid supporter of the book and the product, should object to all proofs of safety and efficacy being displayed to the public. If they do, their objections should be viewed with suspicion.
