Book Reviews of The Navigator (The Numa Files)

Book Review: Extremely Disappointing
Summary: 1 Stars

Cussler can do (and has done) much better.

I approached The Navigator with the very low standards I normally impose on paperbacks I buy at an airport, but they were still far too high for this silly book.

The Navigator's characters are one dimensional at their best, and the plot's utter predictability is relieved only its occasional resort to absurd and implausible devices such as the jousting scene at the end.

There are many better ways to waste your time than reading The Navigator.

Book Review: 4 star fun!
Summary: 4 Stars

I had given up on Cussler a few years back as the stories all began to run together. My son though left "The Navigator" at the house the other day and little did I know I was in for an adventure/thriller filled weekend. By Sunday night I had finished the book, but still wanted more! Not much depth here but Austin and Zavala keep the buddy action going and there is never a dull moment. Fans know what to expect, but if you're new to Cussler I highly recommend you start with his early Dirk Pitt books.

Book Review: The Navigator
Summary: 5 Stars

Even though I'm a devoted Dirk Pitt fan, Kurt Austin is my next favorite character.
The book is excellent, of course. Everything Clive Cussler writes is excellent,
especially when it involves an artifact of some type. I love the way his books
start out in the past in order to set up the story line. When you finally reach the point where the past and present collide, it's always an "AH-HA" moment.

Book Review: A Pleasant Ride with The Navigator
Summary: 3 Stars

As my favorite film reviewer Roger Ebert might say (paraphrasing) "This book does not transcend its action-adventure genre, but at least honors it".

Not to be confused with literature, but if you are looking for a light, escapist read, this will suffice. Very derivative plot borrowed from the movie "National Treasure", and parts of the book "The DaVinci Code". Nothing very original here.

Book Review: Among his best
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been a fan of Clive Cussler for a long time and have read many of his fine adventure novels. This one stands up with the best of them. I would recommend it to anyone who likes their heroes bigger than life and their villains (while smarter and nastier than average) beaten severely by the end of the story.
