Book Reviews of The NecronomiconBook Review: An astonishing work on old myths Summary: 4 Stars
In spite of the many critical opinions referring this book I have to state my real appreciation of it. Even though the spells and invocations provided by this "paperback-edition of the world's most powerful black book" may not be "Lovecraftian" enough for some of it's readers, they still refer to gods and demons which actually are Sumerian/Babylonian, and they are offering interesting parallels to Greek/Roman deities and mythologies to the ernest reader as well, not to mention Indian religions and scientific researches on the topic of antropology (the last two parallels are NOT EVEN MENTIONED!). I will not comment on the magical outcome of the ceremonies provided by this volume since I didn't tried any of the rituals, yet. May one think about occult magic as he is forced to, whether it exists or not has anyone to find out for him/herself, the answer is hidden in your own self. I personally believe that someone using outer powers to persist one's way ! through life is surely in need of those, one knowing and despising them could be called the stronger being. But for anyone interested in a mystical way of life, this edition offers a certain stack of knowledge, which other authors selfishly denied to their readers. All in all this is a fascinating book on a fascinating topic -- allow yourself an own opinion!
Book Review: An obvious hoax, but manages to make money for Ed anyway. Summary: 5 Stars
As an ancient Crone of the Occult, I can confidently state that this book, in and of itself, is a complete WORK OF FICTION, inspired by the "Elder God" mythos of the great H.P. Lovecraft. It was NOT written by "The Mad Arab, Abdul Al Hazrad", also a fictitious character of H.P.'s, and is merely a hodgepodge of Sumerian, Babylonian, and Asserian cosmology, incorporated into some colorful, but equally fictitious spells, and laced with some occasionally comic illustrations. It was obviously fabricated in order to cash in on the rising interest in the Occult which began in the early '70'S.---A very expensive leatherbound edition of this "NECRONOMICON" was first issued in about 1979 or thereabouts. That being said, I feel I should add that all that matters in occult workings is the belief of the sorcerer IN WHAT SHE DOES. In other words, even a fictitious grimoire can fire the credulous mind, and produce various results, some of which might not be as expected. This IS A VERY NEGATIVE, DESTRUCTIVE BOOK, and I would not recommend any student using it. Some entities only want a GATEWAY opened into our here + now, and really don't mind how it's opened. Nor do they care about the person opening the way. READ IT FOR FUN ONLY. The blessings of the Great Goddess be with you all.
Book Review: For those of you who want to believe Summary: 5 Stars
I tell you, I owe this book a great deal. It gave me an interest in Mesopotamian Theology that I have kept for 10 years now. I discovered the Necronomicon in high school, and it is, most certainly, a fabrication. But it's a pretty good fabrication, I'll give it that. Now I have never read any of Lovecraft's works, but I'm sure that Simon borrowed a great deal more from the translations of Sumerian cuneiform tablets that have become increasing available in the past 50 or so years than he ever did from the Lovecraft's mythos. In fact, some of writings in the Necronomicon, such as the Maklu and the Magan text, are very similar to actual Sumerian and Babylonian manuscripts. In other words, Lovecraft's Necronomicon was a myth by his own admittance. However, Simon's Necronomicon is, at least in part, based on a religion that was very real and practiced for thousands of years. Personally, I am at least pleased to see a book create such a resurgence of interest in a system of believes that has been close to dead for such a long, long time. However, for those of you who are interested in taking the contents of this book to a more personal level, there are far more accurate sources to look to, although I'm sure Simon's work would be best in captivating your interests.
Book Review: Everyone is a Critic Summary: 5 Stars
I just happened across this page by accident perhaps drawn here for a reason unknown to myself but I read all the negative comments about the Necronomicon and I would like to add my own comments. There are those who believe in the bible, and what is it? fiction, sure it has basis but can anyone truly prove it? no and anyone who will tell you otherwise is a lier yet despite its falsehoods (to call it such) the bible has changed and influenced many peoples lives. So it is too with the so called Necronomicon, perhaps it may be called fiction or even fantasy however as others have agreed it has been based upon fact. As with anything that comes into contact with humans it shall be changed to suit the individual and so this may have been the case. Personally I know the power of the Necronomicon, you may call me a lier or what have you but I have seen its power first hand and I have witnessed many things wich would be deemed falsehoods by others. The point I make is that if you believe in something and seek its true paths the unimaginable will happen. As christians call it miracles and sorcerers call it magick they are one in the same and with the Necronomicon if you truely seek the path it leads to you will find wonders. If anyone has anything they would like to say email me ...
Book Review: OK book I guess. Summary: 4 Stars
I only bought this book because I really enjoyed the movie "Evil Dead." ...I haven't read really anything from it because it seem's like every page I flip to has some weird language and I'm afraid if I read the English language and try to skip over the "unpronoucable" language my eye is going to catch something and pronounce it bringing some weird spirit thing to life. Although I have to say it sounds childish but you buy the book and try reading it yourself. I managed to read the front page where it says you've been warned and so on, but that's about it. I did flip to the exorcism part but still was unable to read anything. I find the book believeable in some ways but not in others. I can't say I don't believe in magic or magik but things don't just happen, they are planned. As for the kid saying his friend was possesed I don't believe it. But then again I don't really know anything about magik or magic, unless it's with a deck of cards. I only have one question, is there anything good in this book or is it all bad? If you summon a spirit shouldn't they be grateful and not angry? I'm confused I guess this book will just sit and collect dust, then again since maybe it's in my possesion it will protect me from the evil things in the world who knows.
