Book Reviews of The Official Scrabble Players DictionaryBook Review: Good for setting boundaries for the game, but flawed in accuracy. Summary: 3 Stars
Any Scrabble player knows that you need a dictionary in order to set boundaries for what is and isn't a "real word." However, you can do that with a dollar-store's student dictionary, and you would save yourself a few bucks and have all of the definitions. The Scrabble dictionary provides a few definitions, excludes some commonly-used "real words" (that aren't proper nouns), and even throws in a few words that aren't found in a general-purpose dictionary, so I'm still not sure what some of them mean....but, apparently, they're allowed in the game.
Final Assessment: Nice for setting game boundaries, but you'd get the same and more value with a small, student-edition general dictionary.
Book Review: From the Board Games Editor at BellaOnline.com Summary: 5 Stars
Whether or not you agree with the inclusion of many of these words, the fact of the matter is that OSPD4 is now the official dictionary for Scrabble tournament play. If you wish to play in a Scrabble tournament, you must learn them, or you will most certainly lose.
If you don't like "Scrabblese", maybe Scrabble isn't the right game for you. There are plenty of other great games out there. Try Wildwords, it's like Scrabble except it has "blank" tiles which can stand for not just one letter, but a whole string of letters. That game uses a regular old-fashioned collegiate dictionary as its word source, so you won't have to know qat, qi, or jo to play.
Book Review: English teachers nightmare Summary: 1 Stars
You would think that with the name "official dictionary" , it would use proper english that we were taught in school. I cannot believe some of the words that are in this book. My English teachers would not like to know that there is a source out there teaching opposite lessons that they are fighting for children to learn. Examples: the multiple of sock is not sox and I never heard of very used as verier. It drives me crazy to see some of the words in this dictionary. Uh is a sound not a word, if it is then why isn't arg in the dictionary too?
Book Review: Must have for Scrabble Players Summary: 5 Stars
The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary is a must have item for Scrabble players of all levels. For years, my husband's family argued over which words were acceptable during their Scrabble games- they usually resorted to a standard dictionary which inevitably left someone feeling cheated. The Offical Scrabble Dictionary ends all arguments! It is also useful for discovering new words (especially those that start with 'Z'). The Scrabble Dictionary is a book that should sit on the shelf beside any and all editions of the Scrabble board game.

Excellent. When i got it i thought Amazon made a mistake, the box was too small...when i took it out of the box it was really small....well, it's BIG!!!
It like a compressed enciclopedia, and the best, it has all the inflections / plurals / synonimes that always provoque discussions in Scrabble.
The only thing i didn't like is that my book has some pages a little faded out but i didn't complain because it's still readable and i am so happy with it!!
No more losing at Scrabble for me!!!
