Book Reviews of The Official Scrabble Players DictionaryBook Review: Good when used with a companion source! Summary: 4 Stars
Hubby and I are using this book and www.[...].com to settle challenges. While some slang is in the book, many common and scientific words are not. Plus, "proper" names are ommitted, so you don't know if the book has missed it or if it's proper. "Zen" is a good example. Dictionary.com showed it was proper, therefore the word was not allowed. I'd use two references if you are a stickler or competitive like we are! :)
Book Review: scrabble dictionary and scrabble turntable Summary: 2 Stars
With shipping I paid about $9.00 for my scrabble dictionary. The price on the end backing of book is $7.50. I did not do very well. I should have checked product price before ordering. I will not be so quick to order again. I also ordered a scrabble turntable that was in poor condition, missing letters, no string for the bag to hold letters, box taped together. Very unhappy with my first order.
Book Review: Tough on the old eyes Summary: 4 Stars
I like the book, it's perfect for what it's supposed to do. However, I wish they would have made the print a little bigger. It's REALLY hard for me to read. My eyes aren't what they used to be, I'll admit that. But I can normally read fairly small print, but I struggle with reading the word descriptions. I can read the bolded word, but the description is so small and so faint, i can barely read it.
Book Review: Scrabble Players Must Have Summary: 4 Stars
The men in our family are avid scabble players- Every time we get together for holidays they play - so this past Christmas I bought the Official Scrabble Dictionary for each of the guys - What a great gift!! They didn't have to wait for the 30 year old dictionary to be passed around (they play by their own rules)- The only mistake I made was not purchasing a guest copy - Amazon Rocks!!
Book Review: Scrabble Dictionary Summary: 4 Stars
I've been playing with the 2nd edition, and was amazed to see how many words had changed. While I haven't read it all...a slightly larger paperback edition might make a big difference in seeing the words...especially for us older folks. Sometimes it seems to take an inordinately amount of time when looking up a challenge. The bulkiness wouldn't matter since I just use it at home.
