Book Reviews of The Piano Teacher: A Novel

Book Review: Not the gripping tale I thought it would be.
Summary: 2 Stars

Perhaps I read through it to quickly, or maybe I just didn't catch all the undertones of the book. But, the story wasn't at all as interesting as I thought it would be. The ending was just...plain and uninteresting. The storyline of Will and Trudy wasn't too captivating - I was barely interested in their love affair. Then, once the war came, the story took a slightly interesting turn, but nothing too great.

I kind of regret buying the book, since I don't think it deserves the place in my library that it's taking.

Book Review: Not that great so far
Summary: 2 Stars

The word "had" appears 23 times in the first two pages making it very cumbersome and clumsy. Poorly written at best.

I was startled to discover that this woman, in addition to being a former editor, is also a Harvard grad. What I'm wondering is who did the editing on THIS book?

I'll try to at least finish the first two chapters, give it a fair go, but I'm not feeling hopeful. There are just too many well-written novels out there and not enough time to read them all.

Book Review: The Piano Teacher - a tragic love story
Summary: 5 Stars

I really loved this novel. It's language is quiet, understated and economical. The story moves swiftly and compellingly to a forgone conclusion that is sublimely sweet and familiar in its sadness. i enjoyed the feminine perspective of war and romance it provides, full of honesty, directness and concern. The message is a kind of reality check: that love is inexplicable, tragic, self-centered, demanding, fatal and ever-so-fleeting. The irony and futility of loyalty as a virtue is especially moving.

Book Review: so disapointing
Summary: 2 Stars

I have to say I was excited to start this book after reading the inside cover. Once I started I quickly realized that the style of writing was not going to be as enjoyable to read as I had thought. I am an avid reader, but found myself not wanting to even pick this book up to finish it, and disappointingly, when I did finish it all I felt was relief that the book could now be returned to the library. Sadly, I would have to say I do not recommend this book.

Book Review: This book dashed my high hopes
Summary: 3 Stars

This book disappointed me. I'd heard such great things about it and expected it to be fantastic, but I struggled to get through it because it dragged so much in places, and I also hated every single one of the characters. Also, I don't really understand why the book it titled "The Piano Teacher," as the story really isn't about Claire, but rather about the mysteries that surround her and the pasts of other characters in the book.
