Book Reviews of The Piano Teacher: A NovelBook Review: The Piano Teacher Summary: 1 Stars
I read this book because of some very good Amazon reviews and because it was a novel dealing with a little understood and covered area of the second world war that has always intrigued me. It explored the complex racial/colonial interface of Hong Kong and could have been a great book. Unfortunately, the character development was superficial and the writing pedestrian to the point of embarrassment. Save your time and money.
Book Review: WWII in Hongkong Summary: 3 Stars
The first third of the story was very slow, but after that the pace picked up, and it was interesting. The author knows Hongkong, and describes locations with authenticity. I think, perhaps, the title of the book could be more engaging as The Piano Teacher was not the focus of the story in my opinion. I think Trudy is a much more vivd character, and it was disappointing that she had to die in the way she did.
Book Review: Reader Summary: 5 Stars
Received my "The Piano". I had to order two so was pleased that the seller had two available. I am also always looking for a seller whom is closest geographically to me. I live in Ca and have noticed most the sellers are on the East Coast. Sometimes I am in a hurry and don't want to wait the extra couple of days. I appreciate when the sellers list which state they are from.
Thanks
Book Review: What is the ending about?? Summary: 3 Stars
The book held my interest with all of the history of the time. While the characters were being developed I found myself being involved with the story line. Towards the end of the book I am left totally confused about Will and Trudy and her cousin Victor. Are we to believe she was in a relationship with her cousin?? all very confusing. Did not like the ending at all left us up in the air.
Book Review: A Rare View of Hong Kong Summary: 3 Stars
Life in Hong Kong changes as the war begins in 1940. the piano teacher herself is rather draab character, and the novel goes back and forth from 1940 to the 1950's to show the changes. None of the characters was truly compelling, except for Will, and he was rather feeble. I kept hoping Trudy would reappear, but we never really lerned what happened to her. A somewhat disappointing book.
