Book Reviews of The Purrfect Murder (Mrs. Murphy Mysteries)

Book Review: Dissapointed With RMB
Summary: 2 Stars

I was anticipating this new installment to the Mrs. Murphy series. After reading it I am again disappointed by the lack of mystery, story line and character development. Ms. Brown has begun to use her books as a soapbox for her views on politics, and society. I have no problem with current events woven into a storyline it makes for interesting reading. What I would like returned to this series is the warmth of the people and town of Crozet Virginia. It would be nice to have a storyline with a tightly plotted mystery. Instead the auther has written a hastily developed plot that allows her a forumn to espouse views on everything from abortion to the conservatives in todays society. I have not enjoyed this series since the "Tail of the Tipoff." I am sorry to say this is the last time I will read the Mrs. Murphy books.

Book Review: I'm abandoning you, RMB!
Summary: 1 Stars

I've read all the books from the beginning and at first liked them a lot, but this one'll be the last for me.

It's not even the soapboxing that drives me crazy, but the product placement. It's always designer this and brand that from her tractor to her work boots. I suspect the author makes more money from advertising than from writing.

And then people sitting on some million dollars worth of land going on, "Oh, no, I'm not rich at all, see me re-using my old socks for catnip toys!" LOLcats says, "Your white privilege it's showing!"

And you know what RMB? I can follow my family line to the early elevenhundreds, so, a family history of twohundredsomething years is really nothing special. Please stop bothering me with harping on about it. Cheers!

Book Review: Far from Purrfect, It's a Huge Disappointment
Summary: 1 Stars

How awful to title this the Purrfect Murder when the book is so far from perfect or even acceptable. I agree with the other reviewers, that the talented Rita Mae Brown is too inclined to preach in this book. Readers want to ride along with the mystery story, not be confronted by views on abortion and other heavy topics. (She should let Sneaky Pie have at it, bet she'd write a better book on her own!) There's a place for such opinions, but a light mystery series isn't it. Alas, like the ailing "Cat Who" series, (which we all know is now written by a group of writers lacking any connection to the characters created by the presumably late Lilian Jackson Braun) the Mrs Murphy books of late have been up and down, more down than up. No more for this reader!

Book Review: Quite a few holes.
Summary: 3 Stars

I have been finding that the Mrs. Murphy mystery series is getting a bit sloppy. There appears to be a lot of holes in the plot in this one as well. The book starts out with two storylines, that appear to meld together, and then ends up with two storylines again. It makes it a bit difficult to follow the plot. But we do have the people of Crozet (although not so much of Miranda), and that helps, and we have the animal characters which help to carry this story along. I just feel a bit disappointed because the book seemed rushed, and so much didn't make sense. I do hope that Ms. Brown will pick up in the next book because I have enjoyed Harry and her animal companions.

Book Review: Nancy Drew & Dr. Doolittle meet DNC
Summary: 1 Stars

I had trouble keeping the cutesy kitty names separate and straight from the cutesy/odd people names.

I think a mystery is supposed to primarily about the mystery, and may justifiably hinge on social or political issues, but this book seems to make pro-abortion propaganda equal to the unfolding mystery.

If you like fun, light cat mysteries, try Lillian Jackson. She writes cute, light reading mysteries, without the ackward political dissertations.

This book is a Nancy Drew mystery, as written by the Democratic National Committee. Save your money and go to a activist group meeting.
