Book Reviews of The Raven PrinceBook Review: Amazing New Book & Author! Summary: 5 Stars
.
Elizabeth Hoyt is a wonderful new talent. What a joy and pleasure it was to read her new book, THE RAVEN PRINCE!
In 2006, I have read over 190 books and THE RAVEN PRINCE is by far the best romance book for the year.
Once I started reading THE RAVEN PRINCE, I could not put it down until almost 3 am and it was the first thing I picked up the next day and then too soon, I was finished.
The most remarkable thing about THE RAVEN PRINCE is there was not all this whining and gnashing of teeth and padding like so many of the romance novels seem to do these days. Wow, a strong woman character who wasn't whining all the time! And an alpha-male lead character, Edward de Raaf, The Earl of Swartingham, who you could believe was actually a real person.
The book is full of interesting side characters you wanted to know more about. As in, how did Coral Smythe get the best of Mrs. Lavendar? Wouldn't you like to have been a fly on the wall during that conversation? Then you meet two of Lord Swarthingham's friends, Simon, Viscount Iddesleigh and Harry Pye. What is Simon's story? Harry, is a land steward who, I presume is the central character in Hoyt's next book?
Lastly, where is "the letter?" My bet is on Mother Wren!
What a nightmare that I am going to have to wait a whole year for Elizabeth Hoyt's next book, THE LEOPARD PRINCE. Something tells me it will be well worth wait!
Book Review: So very passionate Summary: 4 Stars
Somehow, I never read Elizabeth Hoyt's the Raven Prince when it was first released. There is something very special about this story and it is due almost solely to the characters. The concept isn't a new one, two lonely people finding love and companionship; it's so good because Ms. Hoyt has written a wonderful, kind, heroine and a gruff but supremely honorable hero who defy the expected.
Widowed Anne Wren takes a job as the secretary to the mysterious Edward de Raaf, Earl of Swathringham. She is surprised to discover it is the man who almost ran her down in with his horse a week earlier.
Edward immediately likes the fiesty widow and Anne has an amiable relationship with her employer. She sees beyond his small pox scars to the considerate man that he is. Quickly though Anne falls in love with Edward but cannot see how it could ever be acted upon. She is so enamored she decides to seduce him but realizes she must go about it in a very unconventional way.
The romantic scenes between these two are absolutely scorching. Ms. Hoyt definitely turns up the heat and they have a wonderful physical relationship. But even more, they have a great emotional relationship too. Anne has a past full of hurt and her ability to trust is shaken. Edward has a tragic past, he lost his whole family to small pox. Together these leads create magical moments of romance and tenderness.
Book Review: Would give it 6 stars if possible!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I just had to get my two cents in. I won't go into the whole storyline since others have, but, I had to help this author out since she is new and since this was such an excellent contribution to my historical romance collection and to the whole genre. This book knocked my socks off! I loved it! It's rare for me to try a new author, but, I did and was simply blown away. I was intrigued with the storyline and loved the rich and well developed characters. Even the valet of the hero was a hoot and added some great, laugh-out-loud humor to the book. I was enthralled from the get-go and didn't want to put it down when I had to. It had a rich love story to it and had just the right amount of sweet to its oh-so-spicey love scenes. Let me just say...WOWSA! Not too much sex without story ,but, just the right blend of both to make this a wonderful, delightful, and sexy read. I also liked the fact that the hero wasn't all that likeable in the very beginning and wasn't described as handsome either. The heroine also had some physical description that differed from other romances. Together they had sizzling chemistry and lots of sweet mixed in along with the nice spice and made a couple you were rooting for to get together and stay together. I have never been so swept up in a new author's story. It was just magical and will definitely be a reread for me sometime and a keep on my shelf.
Book Review: A rising star! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the first book by a new, exciting author! I loved it from the first page to very satisfying end. Widow Anna Wren finds herself penniless when her husband dies and she needs to find a job to support herself and her mother in-law. The Earl of Swartingham, a demanding Lord, is in dire need of a secretary since his two previous employees left quickly instead of dealing with his nasty temperament. Anna hears of his search and offers her services. She realizes the Earl needs more than a secretary, maybe some understanding and tenderness. Anna has a soft spot for lost souls and takes them under her wing, but the Earl is a much different matter.
As the only remaining ancestor, Edward knows in order to have an heir he needs to marry. He has chosen his future wife, but a night spent at a London brothel brings a mystery lady into his life. He searches all of London for the woman he cannot forget. The colorful secondary characters in the story bring Georgian England to life and are "icing" on the cake. I read it in almost one sitting even though my laundry overflowed and the house needed cleaning. What a way to indulge in guilty pleasure without the calories. This was a wonderful passionate love story and you will remember Edward and Anna for a very long time. I look forward to reading more books by Elizabeth Hoyt.
Book Review: LOVED IT!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have to say that I read this in one day. I couldn't/wouldn't put it down. It is a historical romance with a ton of humor, sex, wit and two of the best main characters, ever.
Edward is an earl. He is the only living survivor of a family that was struck down by small pox. He has returned to his family home after many years, ready to marry and start a family.
He is known for his pox scarred face and bad temper.
Anna has been widowed for 6 years. She is living with her mother in law and a young woman they have taken in, in a small cottage. There finances are dwindling. Anna fast talks her way into a position as the newly returned Earls secretary. Unknowingly he is the same man that she "ran" into on the street.
They are so not the typical herione and hero of romances. She is tough and smart. He is ugly and ill tempered. But as the story goes on you will fall for him just as Anna does.
Each chapter begins with an excerpt from a story Anna finds that was written by Edwards now dead sister Elizabeth. I was as interested in that story as I was the main one.
There are crazy circumstances that bring them together, intamately, the first time. I can't say more without spoiling it.
All in all this was a delightful tale and I look forward to Ms. Hoyt's second tale, eagerly! Enjoy!
