Book Reviews of The Raven Prince

Book Review: Great pairing...
Summary: 5 Stars

I feel somewhat weird giving 5 stars for just a romance novel, but the characters really stayed in my memory and were very likable. I felt like they weren't too stereotypical or boringly stuck on the page... I was really rooting for them to find their happy ending (even secondary characters like the prostitutes and assistant/butler--whatever Mr. Hobble's position was). Each soap opera-ish twist of events had me glued to the book, laughing or worrying in anticipation. I devoured the story in only a day. The hero's pain could have been described in better depth but I guess that would make the story drag on a bit longer, not that I wouldn't have loved to read about it... I also adored the "Raven Prince" fairytale at the beginning of each chapter. I've tried reading some other romance novels since this one and they just aren't as entertaining for me. I'm now having trouble finding a good book to read after this. I've ordered the second story in the series, Leopard Prince, and I look forward to discovering more books by Elizabeth Hoyt in the future.

Book Review: A Great Read
Summary: 5 Stars

I truly enjoyed this book. It was one of the best I've read since early Johanna Lindsey. The storyline is a different and new historical romance tale. The characters are interesting, intelligent, and made me laugh. Hoyt did a great job of building the tension between the couple. In the end, I really wanted them to get together. Plus, the love scenes really sizzle.

I finished the last page and turned right back to the first to start the book again. (I got part way through the book the first time before I started speed reading. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next.) I loved it more the second time when I actually read the whole thing.

After reading this book a second time I immediately started THE LEOPARD PRINCE. I'm halfway through my 3rd reading of that story and have logged on to pre-order THE SERPENT PRINCE. It's killing me to have to wait a couple more weeks for the book.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this author. I'm excited to read more from her in the future. HIGHLY recommend!

Book Review: A startling debut !
Summary: 5 Stars

You will not be able to put this book down. I read it in one sitting and it's definitely a keeper.
This book is a delightful and emotional romance with a few very steamy scenes. It's good to see a lot of people with flaws! No dashing, heart stopping handsome hero or silly virgin in this book. Elizabeth Hoyt is one heck of a storyteller. She's got a very funny, chatty tone and the book has some great tense and exciting moments.
If you are looking for a book that is historically correct you must look elsewhere. It's not very likely that something like this would ever have happened. But this book warms every corner of your heart with a well-crafted emotional love story and unforgettable characters.
Every chapter starts with the fairy tale of The Raven Prince. Very clever done.
I can't wait for her next book The Leopard Prince and the only big disappointment was the fact that The Raven Prince is Elizabeth Hoyt's first book and there is no backlist. Lets just hope she writes with the speed of lightning.

Book Review: Wow!
Summary: 4 Stars

I just loved this book! 1st off - the heroine is not a dewy-eyed debutante but a widow (not old - but past 18). She is not fabulously weathly and adored by all so she trudges off to take a position as the "lord of the manor's" secretary - which women DID NOT do in 19th century England. The hero is a bit predictable - with his scarred soul and body - but I did not care! He was funny, sweet, irritating and hot! His banter with his servants was hilarious and he was so likeable. Yes, there's a lot about him you want to feel sorry for and take care of - but once you get past that urge there was so much more to him then just a tortured, lonely soul. The author creates a clever ruse for the couple to consumate their attraction and I held my breath during those scenes! I repeat - wow! This is the first of the "prince" books I have read by Ms. Hoyt and I have already dashed out to buy the others. If you like engaging characters and very hot romance - this is the book for you!

Book Review: New Author w/ a great book!--Hip Hip Hooray!
Summary: 5 Stars

The market for great romantic fiction has been so small and tight recently that I've gone back and reread several favorites as many as 4-5 times. SO a rumored great book by a new author put me on the hunt and I felt very lucky to find the last copy. Go out of your way and hunt this raven down because it's a goodie! It's set in the Regency time period and uses a lot of the "conceits" like lime green waistcoats stiched with bumblebees, masks, coaches, etc. to great romantic and comedic effect. The use of historical accuracy of the time period is carefully noted and used to great effect. The male lead is ugly, ill-tempered and the lone survivor of a small pox epidemic who falls passionately in love with a clever, beautiful widow who agrees to be his secretary. The couple is surrounded by a loving, hilarious group of relatives, friends and servants that enrich this deeply emotional and loving tale. Although passionate, this story did not seem overly sensual.
