Book Reviews of The Raven PrinceBook Review: Unsurprisingly good Summary: 4 Stars
Looking at all of the stellar reviews for The Raven Prince, I was convinced to order it online, even though I had never read anything else by Elizabeth Hoyt. I have to say I really enjoyed it. Perhaps it wasnt QUITE what I was expecting based on the massively popular reviews, but I have to say I liked it a lot. I especially loved the physical side of this romance, the sex scenes were really HOT... no holds barred and then some.
The emotional elements of the relationship between the two leads could have been a little more heartrending for my tastes, but hey I'm a sucker for punishment when it comes to romances. The only pet peeve I had was Edward De Raaf's penchant for breaking objects when his temper was aroused. Biiiit bratty right there, but apart from that he was great. Nice to see a physically imperfect hero, complete with pockmarks and a big nose.
Hoyt is a very talented writer and I will absolutely read other of her novels.
Book Review: Awesome Book! A keeper! Summary: 5 Stars
Cut to the chase - the h/h were both wonderful characters. It was refreshing to have a hero that was not a physical adonis. The hero is described as ugly with smallpox scars, a big nose and thin lips (although he sure looks good on the cover). The heroine is described as sorta plain, yet the chemistry between these two was smoldering. There are alot of very funny exchanges in the book - notably with the hero and his Valet. The best part of the book is when the heroine, Mrs. Wren, goes in disguise to the bordello to intercept her man. He is going so that he can get the image of the prim, proper heroine out of his mind. Little does he know that the girl he shares such hot sex with in the bordello is actually Mrs. Wren!!!! He does however feel very conflicted about it, because he would rather be making love to Mrs. Wren. Imagine his surprise when he finds out it was actually her! Let the "swiving" begin! I read this book in one day it was sooooo good.
Book Review: Love the begining but dissapointed at the end Summary: 4 Stars
The book started out on the right note for me. I love the unconventional hero and story, granted it required a willing suspension of disbelief but I digress. I liked Edward right away and I liked the pace of the story. I also like the secondary characters especially Edward's valet, Davis and I loved the dog although I dislike the name Jock *shudder*
My issue was, 3/4 of the way through, where the plot is unfolding to it's climax, I didn't like how it was handled. I wished Edward realization would have come differently, instead, he became annoyingly similar to all the other typical hero's of the genre. I would also have like to learn about Pearl and Hopple and her sister's outcome.
I usually do not like series. I pick the best story out of a series with no inclination to revisit these characters again in other books but I like Simon Iddlesleigh in this book so I think it might be intriguing to read his book.
Book Review: Gentle Georgian Romance Summary: 4 Stars
Anna is a young widow living with her mother-in-law in the country. To make ends meet she takes a job as secretary to a local aristocrat, Edward Earl of Swartingham, and an attraction begins to develop. His family died from small pox which has left him badly scarred, then his first wife died in childbirth. Throw in a charming secondary story about the Raven Prince, a cute mastiff along with a forbidden night at a high class brothel in London and you have this gentle romance.
****Possible Spoilers****
There are two main conflicts in the book, first is two blackmailers one of whom was having an affair with Anna's late husband and the other an unscrupulous aristocrat, then there's Anna's infertility. The relationship between the couple is believable although I felt Anna protested that they couldn't get married for far too long. Overall a great first novel.
Book Review: Not THAT great.... Summary: 3 Stars
I was impressed by all the rave reviews and thought I'd try a new author. Well...it's an alright book but it's not THAT good. I was expecting something really spectacular after reading all of the hoopla below. It was about average in my opinion. If the premise interests you go ahead and buy it but don't expect an emotional tour-de-force.
The guy wasn't really as ugly as all that as he was seen through the eyes of the heroine. She wasn't unattractive. Just not drop dead gorgeous like the majority of romance novel heroines. They actually came across as average people.
I did think that the ending was a bit far-fetched. After all the effort to conceal the fact that she'd been to a brothel she blows it publicly and it's ok...at that time..right
Well, like I said, it wasn't bad. But it wasn't a book to write home about or stay up all night for.
