Book Reviews of The Read-Aloud Handbook: Sixth EditionBook Review: Perfect baby shower gift Summary: 5 Stars
This is the third edition of Jim Trelease's Read-Aloud Handbook I have owned. It's an absolute must-have for any parent. As a busy, working mom, I appreciate all the research that Trelease has put in one place so that I can spend my evenings reading quality children's literature to my kids. My children are now 15 and 9 and are avid readers, and I attribute this to being read aloud to on a daily basis since birth. Since sometimes new parents aren't sure where to start when building their home library, I often give this book as a baby shower gift.
Book Review: A great book for all parents and teachers!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is amazing and very interesting! This is coming from a mom that was a good reader, but never really loved doing it. It offers such good suggestions on how and why to read to your kids. My desire to spend time reading with my kids has increased and we are now going to the library on regular basis and reading each day. I realize that it is the bonding time that is more important than what we are actually reading. Thanks Jim for reminding me what is important! Buy two, one for yourself and one for your child's teacher as a gift.
Book Review: Reading Revolution Summary: 5 Stars
Use this book and children will become brilliant!! Forget NCLB and Reading First. It's so easy and so overlooked, but Jim Trelease has got it right... read aloud to your children. Teachers and parents need this book. Trelease provides evidence for the benefits of reading aloud. He describes simple practices to implement into daily home life and/or our classrooms, and these practices will produce readers. Our children's education could be world class again if adults in children's lives would follow these simple practices.
Book Review: the read aloud handbook Summary: 4 Stars
I found this resource to be very helpful when my children were younger and wanted to select books that would be enjoyable for a "togetherness" reading experience. The synopsis of each book was very helpful and provided a good overview when choosing books. I especially liked that it grouped books according to age levels and made suggestions about choosing for boys vs girls. I have now given this book to my daughter for her use in selecting books for her children as she now enjoys reading aloud to her children.
Book Review: Every parent should read this book Summary: 4 Stars
This book makes so much sense in providing facts, research, and personal examples on how reading aloud to kids helps them develop a love of the written word, develop vocabulary, spelling and grammar skills, listening comprehension, fluency, and many more skills. It is presented in an entertaining format as Jim Trelease summarizes his many years as the "read aloud guy". A "must have" for the collection of any parent or teacher.
Also includes excellent lists of books for specific uses and age groups.
