Book Reviews of The Red Book (Caldecott Honor Book)

Book Review: This teacher approves!
Summary: 4 Stars

This book is a great way to encourage a child's imagination, vocabulary, and developing logic. Children get to read the story without the boundaries or restrictions of the author's words, so children can embellish, expand, and make the story their own. I suggest you sit down with a child and allow them to "read" this story to you. It's so much fun and the children make the story bigger, more detailed with each reading. This is one book the children will want to keep and hand down to their children. Enjoy!

Book Review: A little too high concept...
Summary: 2 Stars

At the risk of sounding like Tom Hanks in "Big"...I don't get it...the girl opens the book and sees the boy who opens the book and sees her...what's the fun of that? I buy six books every Christmas for nieces and nephews ages 2-8, and I couldn't figure out which of the six would find this book at all interesting...It reminds of the slow pretentious movie the critics love and you go and see it and wonder if there is someplace you could go to get the last 2 1/2 hours of your life refunded.

Book Review: It is What You Make of It
Summary: 5 Stars

When I presented this little red book to five-year-old twins, I honestly wasn't sure what their reaction would be. I was pleased to discover they were as immediately enthralled with it as I was. They took it to the couch, looked through the pictures for a few minutes, and be to tell each other stories about the book. Even better, this book as inspired them to make their own wordless books, which they delight in sharing with anyone who shows an interest.

Book Review: Amazing Book
Summary: 5 Stars

My two year old daughter loves this book. She loves to make up the story herself, and she sees new things in the pictures each time she reads it. I wish there were more books like this, but she has had it for a few months now, and she still enjoys it. The illustrations are beautiful and expressive. She walks around the house with this book as if she's the little girl in the story. It's lovely.

Book Review: An unusual treat for the imagination.
Summary: 5 Stars

We happened to find this little book in our school library. My preschool-aged son selected it solely based on the inviting bright red color of it's cover. We were surprized to find it to be a book of no words... only those we chose to give it. It is beautifully and creatively drawn. A treat for those who dream of adventure and are willing to find it in imagination.
