Book Reviews of The Revolution: A Manifesto

Book Review: Once a Ron Paul supporter, this is not what I hoped for...
Summary: 2 Stars

First of, left me make it very clear that I'm a Libertarian and a Ron Paul supporter. I constantly fought for him during the election period, got people involved, and would have easily voted for him as President of the U.S., if he had been made it to that point. I still agree with much of what he says. His views on the Bill of Rights and our need to return to the Constitution and the problems with the Federal Government are very critically important and I really cant think of anyone else who can articulate it as well as Ron Paul does. I'm glad I have lived to at least see a time when someone like him cam along and told people how it really is. Too bad more people didn't listen. I'd really rather give this book two and a half stars, something between 'I don't like it" and "It's ok". I mean really, what a poor rating system here. Oh well.

Anyway, after I got this book I was very surprised. First off, for a "Manifesto" is written more like someone just sitting down talking to you and groaning in frustration "I tried to tell them" off and on. This is not really a point by point, well organized strategic book that I would term "Manifesto". It's just Ron Paul talking about this subject or that and isn't really all that much of the point by point detailed "manifesto" it could have been.

Secondly, and far more important, even though Paul has much of the big picture correct, it is a real shame that if people listen to his views on the war on terrorism then there is less of a chance of anyone being around to practice his ideas about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights because we would all eventually be living under a radical Islamic theocracy (or we would have been murdered for being Infidels). Even though I'm a dedicated non-religious Libertarian and am generally against foreign intervention of most kinds, it doesn't take two twin towers to fall on me to realize that there is a very serious problem going on with radical Islam. Shortly into this book, Ron Paul makes it very clear that not only is he against the war in the middle-east (and that's certainly his choice), but the reasons he gives are totally misinformed. The particular statistically driven book he holds in such high esteem for giving him these views has been very discredited and fallen out of date by the unfolding of particular historical events caused by the terrorists themselves. For more info, people who have or buy Ron Paul's book should read into this subject.

But for those of you who want to know more about what Ron is saying in this book I'll try to sum it up as simply as I can. Ron Paul has sadly bought into the misconception that reason the Islamic radicals are pissed off at us is because we are in there lands. That "occupation" is basically the main cause of everything and that (basically) simply leaving those countries will magically solve everything. Yet that is not the case. All one has to do is listen to the terrorists themselves and what they actually say. Yes, occupation pisses them off, no doubt. But they have made it EMPHATICALLY CLEAR, that though occupation is one of the motivating factors of what they do, it is because their beliefs tell them that JIHAD is the true expression of Islam and that JIHAD is every muslims duty, etc.. They, like Hitler, have made it very clear what they want to happen (and in the case of radical Islam, they want the whole world under Sharia Law in a Muslim Theocracy). All one has to do is listen to what they are constantly going on and on about. Its on their tv, in their books, and they even have taken it to the streets in some countries. Its not hard to miss unless you are trying very very hard not to see it.

So, that's what radical Islamist extremists are using their freedom to do, they are using their freedoms to tell us all that we should not be free and should be all under their particular view of religion and religious law. But one doesn't have to live their life by irresponsible thinking that basically amounts to "believe in our particular view of God because we say God says so."

You know, I really do love Paul and agree with most of what he says. I don't think there has been anyone like him in recent times who has offered up such a clear roadmap for this country in such a needed time. I would still recommend the book for those people who don't know what Ron Paul is about. It certainly gets his main ideas across. But it is a real shame to see him win all sorts of battles, only drop the ball in the end and loose the war for freedom by not standing up for it enough when it is being directly challenged by a radical religious extremism ideology that that opposes everything that Ron Paul and every lover of freedom believes in and is striving for. If he does not believe in how the war in the middle east is fought, that's certainly his prerogative, and I might even agree with him at points. But he has missed the whole point entirely and I hate to say it, but I'm glad he didn't end up as a President in this country because he certainly would not have been a Commander-in-chief I would have felt safe in. Not that I feel any safer now, but there you go...

On that note, if you are going to get this book, I'd recommend a couple other books here at Amazon to get a more balanced view of these issues.

The first, and probably one of the most in-depth (though somewhat dry) would be "Future Jihad: Terrorist Strategies against the West" by Walid Phares (along with his subsequent books). He is certainly one of THEE leading figures in understanding and thoroughly documenting what is going on.

If that is too dry, you could try "Radical Eye for the Infidel Guy: Inside the Strange World of Militant Islam" by Kevin J. Ryan. Thorough, but more sarcastic and humorous.

Also, there is "Islamic Imperialism: A History" by Efraim Karsh.

Summary of The Revolution: A Manifesto

Available in paperback for the first time.

This Much Is True: You Have Been Lied To.

  • The government is expanding.
  • Taxes are increasing.
  • More senseless wars are being planned.
  • Inflation is ballooning.
  • Our basic freedoms are disappearing.

The Founding Fathers didn't want any of this. In fact, they said so quite clearly in the Constitution of the United States of America. Unfortunately, that beautiful, ingenious, and revolutionary document is being ignored more and more in Washington. If we are to enjoy peace, freedom, and prosperity once again, we absolutely must return to the principles upon which America was founded. But finally, there is hope . . .

In THE REVOLUTION, Texas congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul has exposed the core truths behind everything threatening America, from the real reasons behind the collapse of the dollar and the looming financial crisis, to terrorism and the loss of our precious civil liberties. In this book, Ron Paul provides answers to questions that few even dare to ask.

Despite a media blackout, this septuagenarian physician-turned-congressman sparked a movement that has attracted a legion of young, dedicated, enthusiastic supporters . . . a phenomenon that has amazed veteran political observers and made more than one political rival envious. Candidates across America are already running as "Ron Paul Republicans."

"Dr. Paul cured my apathy," says a popular campaign sign. THE REVOLUTION may cure yours as well.
