Book Reviews of The Rosedale DietBook Review: It worked for me Summary: 5 Stars
It worked for me - effortlessly.
In high school 40 years ago I weighed about 165.
For many years more recently my weight was in the 195 or so range.
Several years back I got a desk job and my weight started to creep higher.
A year ago February it was up to 210.
This was 30 pounds above the upper range of my ideal weight.
I had already tried cutting down on carbs but that obviously didn't work.
[...]
I downloaded the e-book and tried it out.
Within 2 months I lost 45 pounds.
Now after that I became a little more lax in following the diet and my weight went back up to 180.
In the last month or 2 I went back to following the diet relatively strictly - with some cheating.
My weight is now down to 160 and I hope to lose another 5 lbs before I relax the diet.
(Add more fruits and whole grains in particular.)
Here is what I am eating now. Obviously you can substitute or broaden this with a wide variety of foods if you want to spend the prep time.
I usually eat 2 bags of mixed vegetables a day - NOT however the classic mix of corn, carrots, pea etc.
But various stir fry mixes - broccoli or sugar snap or asparagus stir fry. (not the one with the added pasta.)
I cover this liberally with olive oil (key in my mind) and sprinkle with Mrs. Dash. Sometimes I'll add a can of sardines or 2 or 3 eggs. (As far as I'm concerned almost any non-processed protein source can be substituted for the sardines or eggs.)
At night I usually eat a cup of oatmeal (dry measure) and half a pound or so of blueberries. And recently due to 18 holes of golf a day - 2 light beers are included as well.
(Last year when I lost the weight I was not exercising at all.)
Within the recent time frame where I have been losing this weight I have had numerous occasions where I have binged - and it shows on the scales - but I get back on the plan and my weight heads back down.
I have no idea why this worked so well for me.
I don't count calories.
So I have no idea if I am eating substantially fewer calories than before.
I suspect it may in fact change my metabolism so that it burns fat more efficiently.
Which as I recall is one of the claims Rosedale makes.
Also it definitely reduces cravings. I am not as hungry as I used to be.
I don't buy and eat a whole pie anymore or the like.
This latter is in fact one of the major claims made by Rosedale.
I.e. the diet will curb hunger cravings.
For me that is definitely true.
Bottom line for me is that the diet works.
Summary of The Rosedale DietFinally?the ultimate diet for fast, safe weight loss, lifelong health, and longer life, based on more than twenty years of research and the latest findings on appetite and weight. Metabolic specialist Ron Rosedale, M.D., has designed the Rosedale Diet to regulate the powerful hormone leptin, which controls appetite and weight loss by telling the brain when to eat, how much to eat?and when to stop. New research shows that leptin may be one of the body''s most important hunger control mechanisms. Control leptin, and you control your weight. Most people''s leptin levels are out of control, causing them to overeat and to store fat rather than burn it. The only way to flip the "hunger switch" back to normal is through a diet high in healthy fats and low in carbohydrates, saturated fat, and trans-fatty acids often found in processed food?plus just 15 minutes of daily exercise. Dr. Rosedale''s 21-day diet plan is simple: Just select from the many foods on his "A" list, including "healthy-fat" foods such as avocados, nuts, olives, lobster, crab, shrimp, goat cheese, Cornish game hen, venison, and more. Then gradually add foods from the "B" list, such as steak, lamb chops, fruits, beans, and so on. A 28-day menu plan and more than 100 recipes, such as Dilled Salmon and Fresh Asparagus, Gingery Chicken Soup, Lasagna, Black Bean Wrap, Raspberry Mousse Cake, and French Silk Pie, make eating the Rosedale way deliciously easy. Weight loss is just the beginning. The Rosedale Diet will make you feel satisfied, reduce cravings, and put you in control of your "sweet tooth." It can even help eliminate or reduce heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and other conditions associated with "natural" aging, as many of Dr. Rosedale''s patients can attest. You''ll find inspiring stories from them?and the power to control your weight and improve your health?in this groundbreaking book.
