Book Reviews of The Rosedale Diet

Book Review: It works!
Summary: 5 Stars

Alarmed by my stubborn weight gain and rising glucose blood levels reaching prediabetic numbers,I found this book through a nutritional website by [...]. This book opens your eyes to the scientific metabloic reasons for weight gain.I finally know why I was spiraling out of control with weight gain. Dr. Rosedale gives clear explanations on the insulin /leptin resistance cascade; gives an abundance of recipes; and also gives vitamin and supplement suggestions again with clear explanations of why and when to take them. The basics of the diet are moderate amts.of protein (because excess protein just turns into fat!!),minimal starches, minimal fruits; but tons of veggies, and surprisingly plenty of satisfying "good" fats from olive oil, almonds, and avocados that nip those hunger cravings in the bud. Luckily I love to cook and enjoy all the foods suggested. I go back to the book, time and time again to absorb the nutritional information and create tastey meals from the recipes.I only hoped Dr.Rosedale had a website that offered supplements to buy, but there are plenty of online vitamin sites. This is a lifestyle change that brought me a weight loss of 34 lbs. so far with consistent serum glucose levels that have dropped from 109 to 88,and I hope to lose another 34lbs.!! This is a great way to help any hormonal imbalances as well. If you plateau go back to the original 3 week plan and be sure to exercise after a bigger meal to burn off any excess sugar. My husband has benefited and even my son - all down 20lbs. This is not a junk food quick fix kind of diet; but if you have been on every other diet like myself for 20 years and are tired of counting points at Weight Watchers this is the book for you.

Book Review: Terrific diet, awesome recipes!!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Rosedale Diet was recommended to me by a nutritionist. I was hesitant to try it; however, it is the best weight loss program I have ever been on. There are wonderful recipes in the back of the book. I was trying to lose 25 lbs. and after the first three weeks on this program I had lost 10 lbs. Sugar is not an option, however, you are eating so many nuts, salads, wonderful fish recipes etc., you are NOT hungry. It is a very healthy heart diet as well. A lot of olive oil, avacado oil, flax oil, walnut oils are used. I plan on sticking with it forever. My husband is extremely pleased with the meals I have made. I have been much more aware of Organic foods and their importance. Now after five weeks, I have lost 16 lbs. Only about 9 more to go!!!!

Book Review: Hopelessly impractical
Summary: 1 Stars

The diet is an Atkins variation, more limiting and restrictive with fists full of supplements to take that he sells. It also comes with the usual dietary myths, i.e. after 6 weeks of no carbs, no sweets, no fruits, no starchy veggies, you'll adjust and be repulsed by the dessert tray and your palate will awaken to the full range of flavors found in celery...... Don't count on it.

The diet leaves you with very very limited choices (spinach and almond salad 5x week?). No question weight loss will follow. I just don't believe anyone with the tremendous willpower to follow this diet would need it. Few people would be satisfied on a permanent diet of limited lean meat and green leafy vegetables.

Book Review: Interesting but complicated
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a very interesting book and based on research. I liked reading it. But the recipes were sometimes a bit too much work. I can't think of many people who would have the time to cook the way they suggest at lunch time. A section on quick and easy menu choices would better suit most people's lifestyles. Also, the web site mentioned on the back of the book, where I went looking for more suggestions, was not available without a password.

Book Review: A waste of money
Summary: 1 Stars

This diet book is a waste of money. If I would go on this diet, I would starve. It is so restrictive that I would very soon be bored with the foods allowed. I want to lose weight but I don't think I would be able to stick to this restrictive a plan. There seems to be some inconsistencies in the book. Recipes include things he says earlier in the book are no-nos. So are they ok or not? Don't waste the money.
