Book Reviews of The Saturday Wife

Book Review: Awful, But I Finished It
Summary: 2 Stars

This book had one of the most unsympathetic main characters I've ever come across. There was nothing about her that was relatable or funny or endearing. At the same time I didn't care enough to root against her. I am very interested in Orthodox Jewish customs and practices and I guess that's what kept me reading. I am sorry that I paid for this book instead of borrowing it from the library.

Book Review: Funny and telling
Summary: 5 Stars

This may be my favorite Naomi Ragen book yet! The depiciton of a modern orthodox woman straddling two worlds is hilarious.
What an ending! I got to the last twenty pages wondering how the author was going to wrap things, but she did! And brilliantly too!
Buy this book... you'll want to share it with your girlfriends.

Book Review: Sad story
Summary: 2 Stars

I have read other Naomi Ragan books and would recommend them. This is a sad tale about a sad woman. All too many women may identify with the main character, but making bad choices does not necessarily heroine make. Unless of course, the character, like all of us, learns from those mistakes. There is no growth in this character.

Book Review: very funny, but not for the easily-offended
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is a hysterically funny put down of a certain type of modern Orthodox Jewish congregation. Those who think the satire is pointed at them may feel scandalized and insulted, but I say if you can't laugh at yourself, then pretend you're laughing at others.

Book Review: Caricatures in the Synoguogue.
Summary: 1 Stars

I was disappointed in this book. The characters' choices did not seem based on their individual personalities and histories, but rather slotted into some predetermined roles. Thus, the characters were not very interesting.
