Book Review: Not convinced
Summary: 3 Stars
Everyone else has rehashed the plot so I will just state the problems I have. I understand forgiveness and moving on. I understand accepting blame in things too. I didn't get that with Alex though. I wasn't convinced that he was sorry. I wanted to be, because I like a happy ending but if felt like Sierra had to accept more blame than he did. Sure she wallowed in self pity but how hard did he try to fight for their marriage. Seemed to me that he gave up way to easily. He wanted to have a relationship with his children. He didn't spend time with them after the move. Seemd he started pulling away from the marriage soon after the move. He should have supported her more. He knew the whole situation wasn't what she wanted and yet he left her to it and the relationship spiraled down. He abandoned her in her hour of need, he moved in with the other woman (knowing what he didn't finish before), he degraded his wife at every turn, he was hateful to her and he exposed his children to a woman that was a bigot. How much more was Sierra expected to take? Then when she gets her life in order, she finds God, and all other things fall into place he wants her back. I wasn't convinced about him. Sure people make mistakes but those are some of the things I couldn't get past as well as the fact that he knew better. He had gone to church since he was a boy he knew the sanctity of the marriage vows and yet he violated them. The other big thing was that she said she gave the divorce the go ahead because of being married to a non-believer. I guess they really didn't know each other then. I think she could have given the divorce, Biblicaly speaking too, because of the adultery alone!
I really wished in this instance that she had moved on to Ron. He seemed so much stronger in his beliefs and priorities.
I believe if I had a bit more about Alex and what he was feeling and going through then the book would have gotten five stars. Since I didn't and I'm left with questions I can only give it three stars. Sometimes when you forgive those that hurt you, you don't have to continue a relationship with them.
