Book Review: Looking for Barbara
Summary: 3 Stars
My first Barbara Delinsky book was Lake News and I loved it. Since then I have read all of Ms. Delinsky's current "womans fiction" titles. My favorites being The Passions of Chelsea Kane and Commitments.
But her current book The Secret Between Us and her last Family Tree left me feeling unsatisfied and wanting more. I think what is missing are the strong romantic relationships that she used to create for her main characters. Saying this I must say that I am not a "hard core" romance reader. B. D. made romance part of the story but not the main focus.
The Secret Between Us was a bit slow and tedious. I found myself fustrated with the characters and disappointed by the contrived ending. Especially weird for me was the PO box in another state???
I'm looking for the return of the type of Barbara Delinsky books that I have come to love and I hope she goes back to creating characters that make me hate to come to the end of the book.
Book Review: Great book...

I'll have to say that this is one of the best novels I've read in a long, long time. The plot to this story will touch your heart like you never imagined. Delinsky shows just how deep her talent runs in developing the characters, writing in such a way that you could feel the emotions of each one. I couldn't put this book down because it was so true to life in so many ways. When a marriage takes a turn to the point where one of the partners can feel the need to leave, then great pains should be taken to ensure the children of that union just how much they are still loved by BOTH parents, and it wasn't their (the children's) fault that the marriage ended. A newly-divorced physician that is left with the raising of a teenage daughter and young son, it took Deborah a while to get past the bitterness of being deserted for another woman. It was probably the circumstances involved (which I won't give the story plot away), but Deborah finally looked past her bitterness and realized she needed her ex-husband's help. In the end, he came through for her. Without a doubt, this story will have you reaching for the box of Kleenex. I give this novel a 5-star rating and only wish I could give it more.Book Review: AN INTRIGUING STORY

I'm a big fan of Barbara Delinsky. Her clean prose, her research which is always so seamlessly woven into her stories, her incorporation of setting, and her attention to detail are all skills I admire. In THE SECRET BETWEEN US she also manages to plant that question: what would I do in the same circumstances? Throughout the book I kept putting myself into Deborah's shoes and, even though I knew it would be just as wrong as Deborah's choice, I was certain I'd've made the same one. All that said, I couldn't give the book 5 stars because I wasn't as emotionally invested in the characters as I wished to be. And for me, that's the true test of a novel. Do I really care about the people in the story and am I rooting for them? The sad truth is, with THE SECRET BETWEEN US, I had no strong feelings either way. I understood what Deborah did, even agreed with it, but whatever happened to her and her daughter in the end simply didn't matter all that much to me.Book Review: Good, Clean, Solid Book

This was the first Delinsky book I have read and I found it delightful. I read it on my Amazon Kindle (quick plug for the Kindle if you are an avid reader--it is awesome!) and was pleasantly surprised. This a book about relationships and the choices we make to preserve them. It is about the consequences of our actions. It is a great book because these issues apply to everyone and are a part of our lives each day and got me thinking what I would do in the situations the characters were in.
I gave it four stars because it was not a breathless page turner that I could not put down each night just full of excitement. But it was well written and a book I can recommend to a friend without embarrassment. It is clean and solid and has a good plot. It is definitely worth reading!
Book Review: Don't Miss This One!

Even if you have never read Barbara Delinsky (and she is one of my favorites), you won't want to miss this one if you are a mom, daughter, or NOT...The story is about a mother and a daughter, secrets, love, sacrifice, guilt...it makes us wonder what we would NOT do for our children...Is there anything we would not do??? I could not put it down. Ms. Delinsky is an excellent writer-keeps the reader's attention from day one...she has told a story that few of us might think about until IT happens. I especially liked the character of Grace, the daughter...Many teenagers might not have experienced what Grace did-they might have taken for granted what happened...
Buy this one...light a fire...get a warm afghan...cuddle up for an evening of Barbara Delinsky at her finest...
